I just defriended another "friend" on Facebook
Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 06:36 PM by maryellen99
for ripping into Obama and calling him an ass..and what a surprise she is a nurse. I'm not putting up with the bs anymore. My hubby's family I just hide their posts..I hid one when they joined the group "I hate it when I wake up in the Morning and Barack Obama is President and his 16 year old brother when he joined an Anti-Obama group as well.

2. There are a few fundie righties in the...
..."high school" section of my FB friends list. I've contemplated defriending them a few times, but find baiting and mocking them to be an effective form of stress relief. Why they haven't defriended me yet, I have no idea. Just a matter of time, I suppose.

3. And I got "defriended" by a friend/neighbor on facebook today. . .
I'm going to miss reading her ranting and raving against Obama. . .she really kept a close tap on Beck/Limbaugh/Hannity's propaganda!

She even told me a few weeks ago that I had no right to an opinion since I wasn't born in the U.S.A. . . .and that without her father and other patriots. . .I would be speaking German by now!

She is a devote Christian, though! She wouldn't hurt a fly. . .as long as it doesn't cost her anything!

These people are SOOOO funny!

11. She comes from people who weren't born here either
just a few generations removed, I'd imagine. So she is talking out of her ass. Unless she is a native american?

And if her ancestors were part of the crew that caused the demise of the native americans who were here prior to her invader relatives' arrival, then she isn't anything more a later generation product of some immigrant who came here to steal the land and lives of those already had established this land as their own for many many years. If she isn't native american, then she is related to a group of natural born killers that tried to glorify themselves by re-writing their history to call themselves "patriots". She ought to be real proud of her origins.

Tell her to get fucking clue - american history is about more than defeating the german "threat". It also includes a ton of shameful chapters, of which she appears clueless at this point. And while she slams you for not being born here, I don't see how she can think she is anything other than some original killer immigrant's lucky offspring. Or the group that came after the dirty deal was accomplished - all the same, at some point in her family tree, she descends from people who weren't born here.

9. You'll have to defamily them.
I have done it. They are still there I just can't hear them anymore. When they start up I just smile and look down at my pie. It seems to drive them crazy but it's difficult to tell.

27. oh, i live so far away from all of them...
that i just don't give a shit. my friends are my family, wherever i roam. i spend my holidays with them, and they share their birthdays and weekends with us. in that way, i have family all over the country (i'm a graduate student and have lived in NJ-where i grew up; in CA-where i did my masters'; and in OK-where i'm doing my PhD).
my blood and married families are fine, but they don't represent me and never will. my sister and uncle are the only two people in the family that think remotely like me. my husband's family is pretty insane. i've put family on limited profile on facebook, but it doesn't seem to stem the vitriol.
oh well. life's too short to give a crap.

But there is so much else that I value in them, so I overlook it. There is more to life than politics.

14. I've never understood the "losing friends over politics" thing.
Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 06:39 PM by hughee99
I have friends who are repukes. I'll talk politics if they want, but generally we both know where the other stands and don't discuss it much. I've never felt the need to refuse to talk to someone on any subject because we are opposed on one subject. Yes, some people are assholes, but assholes are generally assholes no matter what subject is being discussed.

19. Racism I can see...
If you're discussing Obama, baseball, the Academy awards, or a day trip to the city, racists will be racists, but I have a number of repuke friends who I agree with on a number of issues, we just disagree on everything related to politics. I could definitely lose a friend over racism.

23. I unfriended about 15 today.
After a year of me being patient, polite, reasoned and open with my sources - and getting none of that in return.

I finally decided to say "fuck you" back. Unfriended. Feels good to clean out the closet.

29. isn't it funny how some can't have honest, reasoned conversation?
actually, frustrating is more like it.
I've tried to get someone to stay on topic and he's always all over the place. I'm composing a final response to him tonight. I don't think I'll unfriend him but I'm not going to get into it anymore with him. I'm explaining why in my message.
Maybe unfriending is a better answer though...

26. I keep them as friends
and destroy them. For instance from my FB feed:

Him: If you live in the 2nd District of Va today may be your last chance to have your voice heard. Contact Glenn Nye and let him know that you expect a NO vote on Obamacare. Don't do what's best for Pelosi Glenn do what's best for the country. And the current "Bill" ain't it! If Mickey Mouse runs aginst Nye next election and... votes yes, I'll vote for Mickey.

Me: Did you vote for Nye?
Him: No ****.
Me: So then it's not like he really had your vote anyway.
Him: He doesnt know that.At least I hope he doesnt.
