Betamillion Bill Bennett: If We Leave, Iran & Al Queda Control The Oil
Now do the Repugnicans really want to open that can of worms? That somehow if we withdraw from Iraq, Al Queda and Iran will control over 25% of the world oil supplies and "Democrats would be blamed for that". It's not as though we're getting a "victory" dividend here with cheaper oil prices thanks to this invasion...and that American oil companies were pumping Iraqi and Iranian oil prior to this invasion (weren't both under embargo??).

Methinks Bennett left the reservation on this one as this would open the door for the questioning of the motives for this invasion. So, Bill, it wasn't the WMD or "creating a Democracy" or whatever talking point you want, it is about the oil. Thank you for telling us what we knew all along.

6. Let them control the oil. It is their oil after all, Bill.
It's not like the oil conglomerates are going to give us reduced prices because we occupy Iraq. They certainly aren't giving us any breaks now for all the blood we have spilled. Give them their oil and lets learn to use other sources of energy.

7. This is it, the Holy Grail of Iraq excuses to stay. We have OFFICIALLY hit bottom.
How exactly is an amorphous, stateless entity like Al Qaeda going to somehow take command of Iraq's entire oil industry? Is AQ going to start writing up contracts with other countries, maintaining infrastructure and pipelines, electing commissioners to manage production, etc? That is ABSURD. Iran is more likely to do such a thing, but then, we don't talk to them, do we? Plus, we could easily attack/bomb Iran, and Iran's gas/oil fields, in that case--what would be their motive for staging an invasion?

12. More Boogieman Jive
An excellent observation. It's like the term "War On Terror"...how do you fight a verb? How can you defeat a human condition?

This regime has tried to make Al Queda the new Commies...it's almost a carbon copy of all the cold war scares...updated from Ivan to Muhammed. Instead of Reds under the bed, it's now the evil A-rab wanting to fly airplanes into your head. No names, no specifics, just this evil nightmare bedtime story that gets more embellished as it's told.

I am amazed at how naive some are as to understand how our military was so unprepared for this invasion...the cultural and political realities of that area that now have our soldiers caught in a needless civil war. Damn right there's gonna be a bloodbath in Iraq the moment we withdraw...so when will it be...now or 6 months or 3 years or 100 years? This regime forgets that these "insurgents" happen to live in that area...they're fighting for their homes...they'll wait as long as it takes...and the longer it does, the more blood will be spilled and on our collective hands as America's image around the world has suffered so greatly. Shameless and why I see the only justice in a war crimes tribunal for those who both got us into this war for profit and the others who have enabled the ongoing slaughter.

Thank-you for your very important points...

Cheers...

14. A toast back atcha for your good points--
especially the "War on Terror"--a tactic, not an entity. If Al Qaeda wasn't as organized as it is, who would the Neocons blame for everything? I'm not saying they are not a threat and that we shouldn't root them out and keep intelligence on them, but I'm not surprised that the new focus in Iraq is Al Qaeda. What better way to re-sell this dog of a war/occupation? That whole sectarian civil war thing is such a hopeless downer. That didn't focus-group well, even though it's reality. Troops don't want to risk their lives for that--but they'll do it for the folks who brought you 9/11.

11. Full Disclosure? CNN?

I'm sure if we turned over enough rocks here, we'd find every wingnut talking head are getting some kickback from this regime for being lying sacks of shit. Don't forget 30 Grit O'Bierne and her hubby's IPA job...except for the blogs, this story has been ignored by a corporate media more interested in protecting their own than being open and accountable.

Cheers...

17. The Logic Is Mindboggling
The hypocries, distortions and contradictions here are too many. This mess has been so spun that somehow a nation of 300 million people with the greatest technology is being held hostage by a bunch of sheiks who have real bad beards. How the hell did we ever survive pre-9/11? The fear game has run its course, but those who need it as their only crutch to "relevancy" will continue to play this double-speak game only as a pretext to hide ignorance and greed.

Cheers...
