6. They damn near took power in the late 50s, right before the Ba'athists took over. ALTHOUGH...
the Communist Party in Iraq then wasn't like the Soviet Union version. It was more of a Nationalist party and actually probably would have been a stable gov't for some time if it wasn't for the politics of fear of the Soviet threat in the US at that time.

14. The CIA played its usual role then and there
in supporting tyranny over popular movements. That, after all, is its job. "Power to the people" is something Corporatism will never tolerate. Saddam was the result. Some short history here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraqi_Communist_Party and their English website (just a rather plain list of documents) here: http://www.iraqcp.org/framse1/index.htm

It is important to note that there are other organizations working for a just secular society in which working people's interests are supported, but the various variants and the differences among them are less important than the fact that they are the one set of forces opposed to both religious crazies and neocolonial enslavement.

3. it's the ole' domino theory in play again
this is the funniest thing in the world. Do we start blaming everything on the Red's now? Do we need to invade them again, this time to stop the commies?

4. The pictures give me hope for the people of Iraq
I know early in the occupation Brenner squashed Iraqi attempts to unionize. I am pleased to see that in spite of everything that they have been subjected to, many Iraqis continue to demand workers rights.

10. * already has his boogy men in Iraq
According to the * administration, all acts of violence in Iraq are either Iran or al qaeda. Their rhetoric doesn't have room for anymore boogy men.

7. "Arise ye workers from your slumbers...."
But, talk about being the middle of a fight. 'Murka on one side and fundies on the other. They better be tough.

the invasion. According to them, ANSWER and UFPJ are commies and those who joined them were participating in a commie rally.

(edit acronym - UFPJ is a worthy successor to PCPJ, but not the same.)
