Despite my dislike of this HCR bill -- I want to offer
My sincere congratulations to President Obama, Ms Pelosi,
and Mr Reid.

None of this has been easy.
And a win is a win.

1. There's much shittiness in the bill, but it became about much much more than "the bill"
...ultimately. Sort of like a "second election."

With a new mandate, perhaps?

I hope the Dems take this newfound "power" and use it for some non corporate-enhancing purposes now...

2. "And a win is a win"
I never did get that.

A "win" can manifest in a variety of ways, depending on the actual effects of policy and the political narrative following the debate.

10. It will save the lives of people like me
With pre-existing conditions. I would call that a win, wouldn't you?

16. No, not really
Edited on Sun Mar-21-10 10:32 PM by Oregone
It depends on the aggregate manifested effects over some arbitrary period of time. Its never black and white, and no, its not going to just magically save you either.

And thats no clear measurement without a crystal ball, contrasting it to what could of been otherwise. So, despite the life saving talking point, its not so cut and dry actually.

Edited on Sun Mar-21-10 11:16 PM by Oregone
Including you and me. No one *knows* how it would have played out if this reform did not pass. Its not a black and white issue.

I don't expect you to understand

32. I'm going to take the attitude that
it'll play out the same way Medicare and civil rights played out. That it's the beginning of something that will grow and improve over time. I'd much rather take that attitude than one of doom and gloom, which seems to be so popular around here.

This isn't just a win. It's a victory.

35. Oh bullshit.
I have a pre existing condition. My insurance company has already tried to dump me for that. Also I have a 3,000 per month in expenses. I no longer have to fear lifetime spending limits. So STFU. You don't know what you are talking about.

3. I second this sentiment.
With each change, I became less excited about it.

But, the bill has some very good, necessary part to it. Reconciliation helps, as well.

I am also happy that we can shortly move on to more issues.

6. I am happy for the MANY who will clearly benefit from this, especially
the children, and the uninsured diabetics, and cancer survivors.

I may or may not benefit, but some things in life, indeed MOST things in life, are a heck of a lot bigger than me. I ain't the center of the known universe. My pony can wait.

9. Yes, now they will be mandated to buy over priced shoddy "coverage"
from the crooks who denied them help to begin with. Whether they'll be able to use that "coverage" to access to care will depend on whether or not they can afford the out of pockets they will still have to pay.

Edited on Sun Mar-21-10 10:44 PM by dflprincess
but it's typical of the pep squad to call people names.

Pardon me all to hell if I'm tired of seeing my money go to lining the pockets of insurance company CEOs while still wondering how I'll manage to pay for a visit to the doctor.

Being forced to pay for nothing is a lot more than an "imperfection" and if this is the best the Democrats wanted to do with the majorities they have now, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to sell out their corporate masters with real reform anytime soon.

14. No matter what you think of the bill, they did persist and conquer a huge, ugly mountain.
I give Obama the primary credit.
He's the one that started it up again and has been working hard, especially this last week, to get it through.

15. Every Progressive in the caucus voted for it.
So it must be the best we can
do AT THIS TIME.

Thinking that we could do better later
after failing at THIS is folly.

Our Progressives fought the good fight.
Let's keep on them all to start making
the changes this plan will need.

And let's PRIMARY the CRAP out of Stupak,
for making reproductive rights a wedge that
very well may have cost us the public
option in this bill.

38. I'm not dancing in the streets over this bill, but it will help some people
so it is truly better than nothing. I hope - and I swore I was going to quit using that word - the public option can be incorporated into the mix with additional legislation so we will at least have a snowball's chance in hell of morphing into a single-payer system.
