Some interesting implications of Health Insurance Reform..
I'm reposting this as an OP with the permission of Rilgin who posted in another thread. I suspect I'm a bit more flame retardant than he/she is.

The HIR mandate gives us a model to use for other chronic US problems.

For example, unemployment.

We could pass a bill called "Employment Reform" which boils down to each person in the US must apply for and work for one of the many validly established Corporations in the various states. Corporations will be required to accept each of these applicants but may pay them whatever they wish with perhaps a token minimum of $1.00 per day. So that our opponents will not say its a total fraud, we will require these employers by law to allow their employees bathroom breaks and will allow them time off to Vote.

I realize this is not a perfect bill but it will absolutely end unemployment in America.

For those who need to defend the bill against progressive objections, please use one or more of the following:

1. Are you against solving unemployment?
2. Are you against allowing Employees to go to the bathroom?
3. Its just a start, we will fix it later.
4. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good or the.. well.. the not so good.
5. If you reject it, we will never never never never never ever ever ever ever do anything again to fix unemployment even though it will continue being a problem under the status quo.
6. Last but not least, why are you agreeing with Republicans when you say the above is a bad bill?

5. I wouldn't worry about that..
There's no doubt in my mind that private mandates will become a popular means of societal engineering once the SCOTUS says they're cool with it..

7. Not only that but it will make all these costly and irritating public transport schemes obsolete..
All with the stroke of a pen..

The opportunities for making America a better place are limitless with private mandates..

8. Wouldn't that require employers to hire?
Apparently, even if they did not have enough business?

You're forcing me to sound like a freeper. Apparently you should not have to work, but should still get health care, without having to contribute anything.

Some money has to come from somewhere. You're not getting that concept. Or are just entitled to be handed everything without having to contribute a dime.

9. You don't have to work to get health care with the bill as passed..
The indigent who have no job and no income will get Medicaid.

Where is the money going to come from for that?

If the government can force citizens to purchase a private good, insurance, then it can force companies (that aren't even citizens) to purchase labor (a private good) by hiring the unemployed, it's the same thing.
