HCR question: Keeping your older kids on your insurance
Our local paper did a breakdown on a few of the HCR items. One thing that caught my eye was how it would allow parents to keep their kids on insurance til they turned 26 yr old.
Anyone know when this would kick in? Right away or is it on the 2014 list of things that will kick in?
I work for a large hospital and I get my insurance thru them..we have Aetna as a group plan. Would it apply to me?

Thanks in advance!

2. 6 months from the day of signing the bill is when that provision takes effect
It applies to anyone who has insurance and has kids until they are 26 years old.
No longer does the child have to be a student, or something like that.

4. That would really benefit our family
My daughter is a 22 yr old college grad who is working but is not exactly in a 9 to 5 office job/profession with insurance..so it would really, really help.

3. Kids on insurance
I am no great authority, but I think this will kick in right away. If it doesn't cost the government any money, then it kicks in when passed.

5. Is the Self-insured loophole still there?
Edited on Sat Mar-20-10 01:56 PM by FredStembottom
We already have that rule in Minnesota. Kids stay on until 27, if I remember right.

BUT as soon as my family needed it, very very badly, I find out that corporations like the ones my wife and I work for are "self-insured" and the rule does not apply.

I think nearly all Big Corps are "self-insured" so, folks, prepare yourselves for having this hope snatched away in many cases.

Hope I'm wrong.......
