How many emails are sent every day?

Answer: Statistics, extrapolations and counting by Radicati Group from August 2008 estimate the number of emails sent per day (in 2008) to be around 210 billion.
183 billion messages per day means more than 2 million emails are sent every second. About 70% to 72% of them might be spam and viruses. The genuine emails are sent by around 1.3 billion email users.

So, would you go for a penny/email tax as it would put a dent in 70% of the junk mail and viruses you get everyday? I think these figures are for world wide emails. They are also for 2008. My guess is it would go a long way for paying for great HC.

1. No to a tax. Probably not technically feasible anyway.
But I fully support corporal punishment for spammers and phishers.

4. I'm not
just pointing out how the figures were arrived at. I'm sure ISPs can come up with the #s for each email account. I'd be willing to pay a dime and I understand many would not. However, to reduce the volume of junk and scams, plus add to the budget, I think most would be willing to pay a penny.
