~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SSRN-Public Schooling, Indoctrination, and Totalitarianism by John Lott
The frustration and social chaos of the public schools spawn extremist politics and authoritarian street gangs. They do not care about democratic values. They will sooner kick your head in than “engage in political discourse.”
Where do they come up with this crap?
I am more worried about Figurative Language and Percents and fractions.
I would also be willing to venture that NONE Of my students even know who I voted for in any election.
Do they really believe we spend our days "indoctrinating" students to become "socialists" ?
1. You must be doing that. How else do you explain all the socialists in public office?
Yup, the socialists have had a majority in Congress for decades now.
:sarcasm:
13. Right, and it's because children who pray in school are beaten to death.
Rush told me!
15. I have a student who carries a bible every day. I admire him for it
he is also one of the few students that can carry a healthy debate and guess what? He is a >liberal< and I did nothing to sway him
2. As far as I can tell, they're indoctrinated to become little lemmings
listen, follow orders, do what your told, no individuality, no questioning authority, police in the halls, zero tolerance... need I go on?
4. I wish...no I don't really
I teach my students to think for themselves. To search for the answer. To figure out their positions and to be able to JUSTIFY why they choose their positions.
6. In my teaching career...
I found that I could do nothing more subversive than teach kids to think for themselves. They start thinking, and the next thing you know, they're questioning. You know where that leads...
I like to think that my challenging lead to some subversive kids. Maybe even some socialists.
17. Yup.. that's the plan...
There was a video biography of Limpballs. I edited it for time... not content... an showed it in class to seniors in HS. They howled with laughter.
I did the same with a bio of Newt Gingrich, and the kids were all "ewwwww" about Newt marrying his HS math teacher, dumping his wife while she had cancer, and getting the BJ in the car when his campaign aid and kids were walking toward the car.
I think I killed both of those assholes for my students.
Only two examples, but did lots of that stuff. Showed pieces of the Daily Show, too.
I knew I was doing it, I knew what the effect would be... so I must have been indoctrinating.
Damn proud of it, too.
18. daymn. you are braver than I
while I would LOVE to do that, I just haven't gone that far.
I did play F 9/11 during summer school once but it was for "extra credit" and not during normal class hours.
21. Hey... these were "Frontline" programs...
Nothing from a totally whackjob outfit. They do good research.
"the long march of newt gingrich" & "rush limbaugh's america"...
Another technique is to use debates to make the right look ridiculous. Kids who want to defend reproductive choice do so, those against have a chance to defend their view. Kids are graded on level of preparation, not which side wins. Conservatives end up sputtering a lot.
10. He's also a family man
Who cheated on his girlfriend with her mother. Also smacked her around a little bit, and when she got pregnant, talked her into an abortion. A real piece of work is John Lott. Facts are like Troll-B-Gone to him.
14. Sadly, I am pretty sure they do, they think homeschooling w/christian
based textbooks is a better option! The crazy knows no bounds. I live in FL in a very poor conservative district and hear it from them all the time. *sigh*
Cheers
Sandy
