DeMint Belongs on the Job, Not on the Bus
The Vic Rawl for US Senate Campaign Committee released the following press release today in response to the DeMint/Rubio fundraising tour across South Carolina.

March 14, 2010

Charleston, SC- Vic Rawl, Candidate for the Democratic Nomination for US Senate from SC, said today opponent Jim DeMint should focus on the needs of his South Carolina constituents instead of campaigning for Marco Rubio to be elected US Senator from Florida.

Rawl, former Judge, National Guardsman, State Legislator and current member of Charleston County Council said, "DeMint's statewide tour with Rubio shows even when he's in SC, he doesn't focus on the needs of his own people. It appears DeMint doesn't care about the anxiety, suffering and unemployment of the Palmetto State." DeMint launches "The Comeback Begins" bus tour with Marco Rubio in South Carolina today.

DeMint's attack oriented politics have been making enemies for the State of South Carolina and it's entire Congressional delegation since he began his attempt to become a national political figure by relentlessly cultivating division within the Senate at a time of national economic crisis. DeMint joined a tiny minority of Senators to oppose the recent bipartisan bill providing employment tax credits and road construction funds despite SC's 12.6% unemployment rate.

Most remarkably, DeMint has established a PAC which alienates other Senators. He rewards friends and punishes enemies even within his own party. He rates and donates money based on his own ultra conservative ideology. DeMint's more interested in destroying the President than protecting South Carolina.

Such alienating politics gets our Junior Senator on Fox News. However, such politics makes legislative enemies for South Carolina. It endangers our state's opportunities to obtain economic development projects, federal support for our schools and our capacity to protect our military bases from the devastating economic consequences of closure. According to Rawl, "I'm speaking to South Carolinians who have been out of work for a year, can't find any job and can only provide for their families due to an unemployment bill DeMint voted against. I would like to be a Senator who puts the needs of South Carolina's people first."

I hope people listen. However, the state Dem party is run by hacks who do nothing to try to defeat people like DeMint. They couldn't field a decent candidate against Graham. They at least could have found some up and coming newbie that would get some publicity and experience. There are good candidates, but the SCDem Party won't get off their asses.
