This health reform process proves one thing all to true

Our President, Senate, and House worked very hard in protecting capitalism's role as the primary player in health care.

If they worked for us then they would have crafted a HCR Bill that did not place capitalism (profits) ahead of the people that voted them into office.

2. That was the one principle they were unwilling to compromise on.
Obama was willing to listen to any idea, as long as it protected the profits of Big Insurance and Big Pharma.

5. The system is completely broken, that has become clear (again)
We need to do away with the electoral college completely, return to a verifiable paper ballot, and eliminate corporate contributions.

Until every vote counts nothing will change.

15. Cap campaign spending. Sell the idea this way:
if a candidate can't run an efficient and effective campaign with limited funds, then how can he or she run a nation with limited funds?

8. The Nation endorses health reform
What about the legislation itself--what does it accomplish? On a concrete level, it expands health insurance to as many as 30 million Americans who are currently not covered; on a symbolic one, it makes clear that the government--not the market--is responsible for healthcare. Those are no small achievements.

is that the DLC rah rahs are going to find out they're getting screwed right along with the rest of us. They've been played.

11. The other good thing about it is that people will never be
willing to trust them again. And what won't work is assuming that the base has nowhere else to go. Nor will people be willing to donate their money to a party that basically ignored them once they got the magical majority that was supposed to bring so much 'change'.

The focus should be on Congress now, getting rid of those who have accepted large donations from big business. Ordinary people donated a lot of money to these people, and it was all wasted.

Focusing on real Democrats, like Marcy Winograd eg, and donating to campaigns like hers, would help get rid of people like Jane Harman.

Kucinich had no support in Congress even though they all knew he was right. Good as he is he cannot be effective alone.

Helen Thomas said a few years ago, that she had no support from her colleagues anymore either. If she asked a question, none of them would follow up, so Bush et al knew all they had to do was brush her off and that was the end of it. We know now what the story is, which is better than having all that faith and hope that this party would ever consider the concerns of the people who elected them.

17. Honestly, I don't think our economy could have handled a 1/6th of its GDP
to decline at this moment. Its one place that profits and is still employing. A shake-up along this sector would really be a blow... I'm sure they realize the next issue dealing with commercial real estate is about to blow up in their faces.. and that is a lot of bail out if it comes crashing down. I'd say sometime this year or next its going to be a big issue... AND corporations are not as attatched to the super center or mall as people are to their homes. They'll dump them and mark up a tax loss. The banks and wall street could see another gigantic meltdown.

If some of the systems of delivering health care can become normalized and standardized along with the costs, it will eventually be easier to roll everyone into a single payer system.. or the costs will stabilize the increases along with tougher regulations that can be attatched as ammendments to other bills that the FOX newsies wouldn't even blink at.

22. I'm not defending it.. I hate it. I'd love to buy into medicare. I hate paying $600.00
a month to the scums. That's a really nice car that I never get to drive just in case my hubby or I or the kid get sick. Its disgusting. I hate being used. However, I see why he did this without trying to upset the apple cart too much. Either it will cause a mass revolt because the mandated systems sucks. Or the system will get better. I'm hoping for the first. But unless you plan on figuring out how to replace 1/6th of the economy and people's assets sitting in the ins. co's as the "stable" part of most 401K's, its not possible to round everyone up and put them into medicare for all. I'm all for lowering the age limit of people in medicare... that would really help with private costs. A slower way to enroll everyone eventually.

21. very true
let's be honest; any plan that didn't shut them down completely (or at least remove the profit motive) was doomed from the start...the execs and lobbyists have been able to steer the legislation in the direction they want...
