. . ."US “bunker-buster” bombs are being shipped from California to the British island of Diego Ga

Final destination Iran?

Hundreds of powerful US “bunker-buster” bombs are being shipped from California to the British island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean in preparation for a possible attack on Iran.

The Sunday Herald can reveal that the US government signed a contract in January to transport 10 ammunition containers to the island. According to a cargo manifest from the US navy, this included 387 “Blu” bombs used for blasting hardened or underground structures.

Experts say that they are being put in place for an assault on Iran’s controversial nuclear facilities. There has long been speculation that the US military is preparing for such an attack, should diplomacy fail to persuade Iran not to make nuclear weapons.

Although Diego Garcia is part of the British Indian Ocean Territory, it is used by the US as a military base under an agreement made in 1971. The agreement led to 2,000 native islanders being forcibly evicted to the Seychelles and Mauritius.

The Sunday Herald reported in 2007 that stealth bomber hangers on the island were being equipped to take bunker-buster bombs.

horrible, disgusting, shameful

and the cost of making those bombs is astronomical - our war barons love it

2. “They are gearing up totally for the destruction of Iran,”
“They are gearing up totally for the destruction of Iran,” said Dan Plesch, director of the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy at the University of London, co-author of a recent study on US preparations for an attack on Iran. “US bombers are ready today to destroy 10,000 targets in Iran in a few hours,” he added.

The preparations were being made by the US military, but it would be up to President Obama to make the final decision. He may decide that it would be better for the US to act instead of Israel, Plesch argued.

“The US is not publicising the scale of these preparations to deter Iran, tending to make confrontation more likely,” he added. “The US ... is using its forces as part of an overall strategy of shaping Iran’s actions.”

3. He must be kidding.
The bomb shipment was deliberately publicized to avoid confrontation. That's the stick part of "carrot and stick".

6. publicized? I only found references to the one Herald story
I would have thought it would have been in more media outlets.

If they wanted to really show the "stick" they'd be putting it on the major networks and have stock video of bunker busters in action.

I dont know if this is a prelude to war as the Herald claims, but damn, that this is (might be) happening is worrisome.

11. Give some credit to American AND Iranian intelligence.
The Iranians have been on top of this since it was first "discovered" (leaked).

"That this might be happening is worrisome." That's exactly what Obama wants Ahmadinejad to think, and it's not an idle threat either.

13. It isn't more widely publicized because it isn't news
The US moves lots of munitions of many flavors around all the time.

14. War is Peace
There was a prophet from 50 - 60 years ago that prophesied that in our days the term "War is Peace" would be all too prevalent in our society.

Or is that too old for ya?

20. It's not too old, nor is it at all relevant
We were definitely gonna bomb Iran before the 2004 Presidential Election, and whoa nelly the bombers were in the air before the 2006 midterms, and WWIII was going to break out over Tehran right before Dubya left office (in fact, if I recall, he was going to use an attack on Iran as pretext for staying in office), and now we're all set to...wait for it...bomb Iran.

The DU loves it's drama, even though I'm pretty sure I've seen this one before.

21. Yep
We would never bomb, say, a city like Baghdad, the seat of civilization.
Oops, yes we did. Why? To have Peace.

Same with Iran: we may fucking bomb Iran so we can have Peace.

Not fun like a day at the amusement park, mind you, more like root canal fun.

At least with a root canal, the headache eventually goes away.

26. I know
Having to live in denial that our country has the means and the made up motive to bomb the shit out of Iran, indeed, anyplace, should give everyone a headache.

Welcome to the nightmare.

Bombing Iran comes in somewhere below cataclysmic meteor strike and sitting on a trans-Atlantic flight next to Paul Riser.

***Hey, I didn't edit anything. I checked the spelling of cataclysmic (nailed it, thank you). This post not edited at all, well, except for this, which is in fact edited in.***

30. Denial is strong, eh?
I don't get it. They have the plans, they have the bombs and they have the "War is Peace" motive.

We have bombed two countries over there, what makes you think they won't do a third? Really, give us a reason to deny what appears to be an almost certain reality. C'mon, enough with the bullshit. If you really have a damn good reason for this denial, spill the beans.

9. This is massive rambling speculation.
Just like all the other previous claims that the US was about to bomb Iran which turned out to be false. It's not going to happen.

First off, I'm sure that the Scotland Herald is the first place to find out about secret US military shipments. Second, obviously there could be NO possible reason to ship air-dropped bombs to an Air Force base. :sarcasm:

In any event, the two bombs they list are ordinary USAF ordinance, not anything capable of penetrating the deep bunkers used for Iranian nuclear research. Therefore this entire scare is bullshit.

What about that other country over there that has been for years threatening Iran? And Iran threatening right back at them?

It's a war bubble and either the air gets let out slowly or it's gonna burst.

Can you speculate what will happen if it bursts?

six years... Also, when the US was getting reading to attack Iraq & Afghanistan, it was made very clear that it was going to happen. Even in the 90's, the military actions and perpetration were always well discussed before they happened. Why would Iran be any different?

Very clear. Why anyone would attempt to deny that fact... I don't understand.
