4. How many proof readers
or copy readers does it take to notice something like this?

This is not a phrase that I hear often - actually ever - in conversation.

What the hell is a rally monkey anyway? A dumb cheerleader? Someone who jumps around and performs for treats?

5. I think the meaning of this phrase in the American lexicon has changed in the last 10 years
and I don't really know anyone under 40 who would derive any negative or racial meaning from it.

Maybe this is a generational thing??

6. stupid title - MAYbe innocent - certainly
there's plausible "deniability" , but . . . anyone with sense should have realized the implied insult.

The "RALLY MONKEY" character debuted on June 6, 2000, when the Angels were trailing the San Francisco Giants 5–4 in the bottom of the ninth inning. Two video board operators, Dean Fraulino and Jaysen Humes, took a clip of a monkey jumping around from the 1994 Jim Carrey movie comedy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and superimposed the words "RALLY MONKEY!" on top of it.<1> The Angels scored two runs and won the game.<2>

7. Apparently Rep. Don Young refered to Wash. Dc as "monkey land".
From the Mudflats:
"During the President’s Day recess from Congress, Don Young (R) was back in Alaska. And then, when the weekend was over, he went home to Washington D.C. Mudflatter J happened to be in the airport with him, and passed on this little tidbit.
I flew into Seattle yesterday with Mr. Young. Waiting in line to board he remarked to someone beside him that he was returning to “monkeyland”… I almost lost control when I heard this, but decided to not create a “situation.”
I was not impressed. What kind of person are we sending to DC on our behalf? I will work hard to see him defeated.
Gee. What might Congressman Young have meant by that?"
