4. Head of BSA and Prof of Ethnic Studies are interviewed in the prof's own classroom
The CNN reporter focused a lot on the fact that the noose hanger was a minority student, but no one talked about what minority. Too much focus on that, I think. In some ways, a disappointing interview.

5. SD Union Trib: Noose a symbol of terror, not a joke
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/mar/03/noose-a-symbol-of-terror-not-a-joke/

So the University of California San Diego student didn’t quite get the dark imagery behind a noose she helped tie, huh?

Didn’t think “of any of its connotations.” In an anonymous letter to the student paper, she said she even picked it up and played with it, like a toy, before it sparked campuswide concern when she left it in the library last week.

Maybe we can expect to hear the same thing for the latest stunt on campus — a pillowcase fashioned like a Ku Klux Klan hood found on a Dr. Seuss statue yesterday.

Well, let’s set things straight with the KKK era and the noose. (Take notes, please.)

A noose is no toy.

It’s used for lynching. For killing people. For hanging them from trees or bridges or telephone poles or barnyard beams.

In the dead of night, sometimes ...

The people, taken from their homes ...

The targets were African-Americans, mostly, killed by mobs to show the black community who was boss.

In the West, Latinos and American Indians were hanged......

6. SD Union Trib: Racist 'cookout' pollutes UCSD
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/mar/03/racist-cookout-pollutes-ucsd/

In the 1960s, the issue was opportunity. Battles were fought to racially integrate colleges and universities so that African-Americans, Latinos and other minorities would be welcomed onto campus and have the chance to better themselves. Today, the issue is dignity. Protests are erupting on campuses as African-Americans, Latinos and other minorities struggle to make their institutions better and more welcoming.

One school that could stand some improvement is the University of California San Diego. For the last few weeks, a first-rate public university has been suffering through a rash of ugly racial incidents intended to either mock or intimidate black students...

...The shame of it is that some San Diegans, mostly on the right, are busy trying to offer excuses for the inexcusable. It’s free speech, they say. The party was held off campus. The TV station in question makes fun of everyone. And here’s my favorite: This whole thing has been a big misunderstanding because one of the people who helped the fraternity organize the cookout was a little-known black comic and Internet personality from Las Vegas.

...To get an idea of just how racist the event was, check out the photos online. I suppose the black comic also forced the white college students to put on black face and pose while eating watermelon....

10. Thanks.
Nikki,

The pleasure is all mine. I'm not going to debate you on this lunacy, let's just wait until the final cast of characters have been unveiled.

13. Hmmm popcorn.
Edited on Sat Mar-06-10 02:09 AM by Happy Hippy
You better have a larger tub of popcorn than that. It is going to take awhile. Having said that, I've never been a big fan of popcorn. I think it's the smell of popcorn that gets to me. To me, it smells too much like burnt hair. Heaven forbid, the popcorn actually burns, that's one of the worst smells on earth. The problems with conventional popcorn start in in the corn field. The popcorn you find at the movie theater and in microwave bags (I won't even go there) is likely to have been raised with the aid of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides, and fumigants. Oh wait, like everything else I guess.

For movies, nothing beats an ice cold Coke and Twizzlers, imo.

both in the UCSD paper ( ucsdguardian.org) and the San Diego Union Trib, you'd be amazed at the attitudes. I don't know exactly what the deal is down there. I know that a lot of the students are upset at the party, the noose and the hood, and that is good, but the frat (PIKE) is still screaming like babies that they should be able to have racially themed parties and KOALA is screaming like babies that they deserve the right to student money and the right to yell "ungrateful n*****s" on student TV. It may not be the whole campus, but it's not just one or two people either.

16. Well I guess then that the answer to the question is somewhere between every member of the student
body and one or two members of the student body. I'd say that applies to every institute of higher learning in the lower 48.

Remember Seattle, when the WTO met there and the "anarchists" tore up the city? Remember how the left said they were agents provocateurs... meant to make the left look bad? What's the possibility of the same thing happening here, but in reverse?

I'm thinking that in this day and age, if UCSD was a "racist campus", we'd have heard about it by now. ESPECIALLY in this day of anonymous news reporting brought about by the internet.
