Nuns help dying man lose virginity to hooker
I saw this headline posted somewhere else and thought it would be funny, but when I read the actual story, it seemed profoundly sad.

But if I get a terminal illness, I want to go to that hospice.

Hospice helped dying man lose his virginity

Hospice helped Nick Wallis lose his virginity
Nick Wallis: paid for prostitute

A young disabled man who receives care for his life-limiting illness at a hospice run by a nun spoke yesterday of his decision to use a prostitute to experience sex before he dies.

Sister Frances Dominica gave her support to 22-year-old Nick Wallis, who was born with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Sufferers usually die by their thirties.

Mr Wallis told staff at the Douglas House hospice in Oxford that he wanted to experience sexual intercourse. He explained that he had hoped to form an intimate and loving relationship with a woman, but his disability had acted as a barrier.

"I had hoped to form a relationship when I went to university, but it didn't happen. I had to recognise that if was to experience sex I would have to pay for it out of my savings. My mind was made up before I discussed it with anyone else."

8. Good for the hospice nun, who didn't try to foist her beliefs onto him.
Sister Frances described Mr Wallis as "delightful, intelligent and aware young man".

"I know that some people will say 'You are a Christian foundation. What are you thinking about?'. But we are here for all faiths and none," she said.

"It is not our job to make moral decisions for our guests. We came to the conclusion that it was our duty of care to support Nick emotionally and to help ensure his physical safety."

22. Oh.... my heart aches
for this person, who has spent so much time suffering. :(

Who can blame the nun? Most sisters that I know are actually quite radical, and many of them have beliefs that deviate from the official church doctrine. I have friends who are nuns who work with teenage girls in the foster system, and many of them have used birth control or have availed themselves to abortion servives. When it is a "fact" of life, thos working with them tend to either turn a blind eye or facilitate circumstances that will benefit the girls.

So, I can't say that this particular story surprises me all that much. I do wish him the best, and I truly hope that he will get to live his life out in a happy way.

61. I agree with that one
I go years without and I don't miss it at all. You do it once its boring after that.I can think of many other things better to do than sex.
Some people are asexual.

Sad this guy confused sex with friendship intimacy tenderness, affection and love.
Proximity, affection and innocent friendship, soul love,That is far more powerful than sex. But our culture glorifies sex and frowns on tenderness and soul love.

If you have touching in non sexual deep affectionate bond,it soothes what the heart really craves and sex becomes a lessor concern..and for some sex becomes boring.Soul love trumps sex any day in my book.I fall in love with the heart of a person, I fall in love with who they are and what is inside their mind and emotions.
Because I am asexual, which means I get my kicks above the waistline.
For me sex ruins relationships..

28. God bless Sister Frances
What a beautiful and compassionate soul. I know for sure that Jesus is proud of her.

And God bless Nick. He seems like a down-to-earth young man who made his decision carefully and had the courage to tell Sister Frances and his family what was important to him. I'm sorry that it wasn't quite what he was hoping for, but at least he's had the physical experience and won't feel cheated for not having had that.

55. The Sisters of Mercy - By Leonard Cohen
O the sisters of mercy they are not
Departed or gone,
They were waiting for me when I thought
That I just cant go on,
And they brought me their comfort
And later they brought me this song.
O I hope you run into them
You whove been traveling so long.

Yes, you who must leave everything
That you cannot control;
It begins with your family,
But soon it comes round to your soul.
Well, Ive been where youre hanging
I think I can see how youre pinned.
When youre not feeling holy,
Your loneliness says that youve sinned.

Well they lay down beside me
I made my confession to them.
They touched both my eyes
And I touched the dew on their hem.
If your life is a leaf
That the seasons tear off and condemn
They will bind you with love
That is graceful and green as a stem.

When I left they were sleeping,
I hope you run into them soon.
Dont turn on the light
You can read their address by the moon;
And you wont make me jealous
If I hear that they sweeten your night
We werent lovers like that
And besides it would still be all right
We werent lovers like that
And besides it would still be all right.

60. Now that's a real Christian...
Edited on Tue Jan-30-07 11:07 PM by Avalon Sparks
With the fake Christians being so loud and rude, it's hard to hear sometimes about the real faithful among us.

Here's a picture of Sister Frances Dominica... what a beautiful soul and spirit.

Props to the student for his candor and courage. Many times when it comes to sex... we pay (give something) for it one way or another - especially when we're young and exploring our options.

History of Helen House:

Helen House was the world's first children's hospice, opening in November 1982.

Helen House sprang from a friendship between Sister Frances Dominica and the parents of a seriously ill little girl called Helen, who lived at home with her family but required 24-hour care.

It is natural that the parents of a much-loved but very ill child would want to care for them at home but caring for your child every day and night, as well as caring for the rest of your family, can be exhausting.

On occasions Sister Frances looked after Helen to give her parents a break. Helen’s situation highlighted the need for respite care for children with life-shortening conditions and support for their families.

Helen House was therefore set up to help families cope by providing occasional respite care modelled on that provided in the family home – personalised and tailored to individual needs.

Indeed the building itself was based on the family home with just eight children's bedrooms as the small scale provides flexibility, as well as affording the children and families who stay there sensitivity and dignity. The emphasis is on making the most of life, whatever the circumstances.

Today Helen House continues to provide respite and end of life care in a supportive and positive environment. It is staffed by a multi-skilled professional care team dedicated to a high level of care built around needs of the whole family. There are now over 40 children's hospice services in the UK.
