Reactions to Jon Stewart's Bill Gates interview
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 11:48 PM by djohnson
I was hoping someone else would start a post on this but there's apparently not much to say. It was pretty dull.

Someone of Gates' stature really should not have to be reduced to marketing, but I guess he's just trying to keep his people employed. Nevertheless, the only interesting thing about his insights was his apparent lack thereof... I am tempted to trash the guy some more but in light of his recent charitable endeavors I'll try to hold back.

1. Bill Gates it's a dull guy to interview and a dull interview to watch.

2. Okay, I'll say it...
I was trying not to mention it but I think the guy is on dope. No offense intended... it's just interesting that he's making some of the most powerful business decisions in the world.

4. djohnson, you're going to have to get up way earlier in the morning to
offend me, "i'm offended" is becoming the real last refuge of scoundrels.

6. I meant no offense to him...
I guess I'm a little jealous that this guy has been seen at MS picnics smoking a joint with his friends, and nobody can say a word about it.

But seriously, I may be over-analyzing this, but I think that with his degree of control over a society that is forced to be sober all the time... his own constant intoxication creates certain conflicting elements that are difficult grasp.

10. Is he?
Hasn't he retreated into a sort of "King of England" position within Microsoft?

3. But his exit was interesting
poor Jon didn't know what to do. His producers should do a better job of letting the guest know how to end the segment.

8. I saw that too.
A lot of Jon's guests don't seem to know that they are supposed to sit there until the show goes into break. But there again, Billy boy is the "world's richest man"; you really think you can tell him to do something and make it stick? Outside of a court order, that is.

11. I thought the bit where he offered to help Jon with Vista was cute ...

Though Jon seemed to be trying to give him chances to give snappy retorts. (Mostly in vain ... if he'd been interviewing Jobs or Wozniak, I'm sure they would have taken the hint and run with it!)

I thought for sure that the conversation would turn to the Gates Foundation's work -- maybe they're waiting until they can get Melinda Gates to come on the show?
