When did TWITTER become the most important source for NEWS?
I tried to catch coverage today of the quake and the tsunami warning for Hawaii and both Crappy News Network and MSNBC were quoting TWITTER. It wasn't from people at the point of action but just some Twit tweeting away on his cell phone.

If I wanted to know what was going on on TWITTER, I would go to TWITTER.com.

These morons don't even know how to report news anymore.

3. Iran and Twitter...
it's a double-edged sword, but in the hands of the right people it can help a revolution.

From my own experience, the more you use Twitter the easier it becomes to filter out the nonsense. Follow reputable sources and it will become easier to do just that.

18. Twitter and Honduras.
Edited on Sun Feb-28-10 12:11 AM by EFerrari
I notice that neither CNN nor any of the other "news" outlets reported tweets from Honduras when a much larger percentage of the population rose up against the US condoned (if not US backed) coup.

The fewer journalists you have in the field, the more you need to rely on alternatives like Twitter. Simple as that.

19. Exactly. I-Reports and CBS local news....
...is using citizens with cellphones to get pictures on air quickly. I'm having trouble with reports from 'social media.' That term diminishes what bloggers do and equates Twitter with news sources.

6. For breaking news, twitter out-performs the M$M.
The M$M actually has to turn to twitter to know what is happening on the ground, when new is breaking.

13. That fits with Americans attention span
If you can't do it in a minute or less, they lose their train of thought.

11. It's just a mechanism for delivering news
And a very effective one.

The fact that MSM outlets don't know how to do their job isn't Twitter's fault.

12. Oh, there's real information to be had on Twitter, although
you need to sift through a lot of chaff for it. Usually you can discern the one or two people at the scene who know what they're talking about and follow them.

It helps if you read Spanish today, though, since the best place I've found is #terremotochile. Damned few English posts there.

20. It's *fast*
I knew about the Chile earthquake immediately because a friend in Santiago posted to Twitter.

That said, I wouldn't take it as the most reputable source.
