Onoz! The Canadians have more Gold than we do!

United States 9 14 13 36
Germany 10 12 7 29
Canada 13 7 5 25
Norway 8 8 6 22

Sure, we may have more medals total--but in this economy, we need all the gold we can get.

3. They were expected to, they had plenty of time to train on the various tracks.
When the US wins hockey gold they'll be weeping. :P

14. They were expected to because their athletes had top world rankings
Edited on Sat Feb-27-10 10:26 PM by Oregone
Canada, US & Germany were dominating the world championships these last few years. This is no surprise...they actually assumed, based on rankings they didn't live up to, that they had a chance at first overall by edging out Germany.

Their main advantages came from the luge track and some skiing stuff. They lost most advantage on the luge because they retooled it and slowed it down quite a bit. The weather conditions made a lot of the skiing & snowboarder crapshoots (one mistake and you're gone on the shitty tracks). Canada actually underperformed on those types of stuff (which was done the first week). There was a lot of pressure that first week and a resounding feeling the athletes choked under it.

Speed skating, curling & hockey have been good to Canada so far. Its just fallacious though that they are leading the count just because they had so much time on certain tracks. Canada has had few to no darkhorses winning and quite a bit of underperformance. But their top athletes were ranked high in the world on a variety of courses, against these same people.

As far as I was aware, its actually the US that is performing quite a bit above expectations. Hell, they defeated the world record holding Canadian women in the long track relay last night...hell of an upset. Its been one after another for the US the entire games

13. Canada too
It looks like the US really stepped up this time around. Maybe everyone is happy after the last 8 years of distaster. Im not sure they were expected to beat Germany.
