2. Oh but covering those stories is so DIFFICULT!
There's a language barrier and a bunch of history to learn about people they couldn't care less about.

5. 20 years ago they would have had an NBC bureau in Santiago
Of course that was back when the networks considered news to be above profit margins.

6. Or perhaps they can't get a crew there yet, because, the AIRPORT's CLOSED?
While there's an existing affiliate station in Hawaii?

21. So real networks ignores closed airports?
I guess. Seems odd since they had a local reporter there passing them information all day. I guess people that actually live in the country don't count as real news. Real news is only created by Americans!

8. They probably are. I cut them slack, myself.
MSNBC is our ONLY outlet for truth atm.

9. I usually watch MSNBC for news, but have had had CNN on today.
They really have had excellent timely live coverage since early this morning. I rarely turn on MSNBC on weekends, since I hate those prison documentaries. x(

13. MSNBC in the late afternoon and evening on weekdays is stellar
The rest in absolutely NOT!
I watch Olympics on them now, though, a lot.

15. Starting with David Schuster in the afternoon, MSNBC is the best!
If I'm home, that's what's on, and KO and Rachel are "must see" TV. But starting on Friday nights, it's absolutely the worst! Sometimes I forget and tune in to the repeat of Rachel, only to find that prison crap... x(

I've watched a lot of the Olympics, too, though I've discovered that I can't sit through curling. Last week I changed to CNN because I was looking for news, just in time to hear Wolf Blitzer saying that Dick Cheney could make a presidential run in 2012. :eyes:

10. Why go to the expense when you've got a former American Idol contestant
already there who knows just as much as any Chilean official or journalist ever could.

14. Why? It's cheaper for CNN, FAUX, and GEM$NBC to pick the news and pics off the tweets.
And then blast the bloggers for wearing pajamas in their mother's basements. I am often stunned how often CNN goes to their FB board to watch the news happen. CNN - Clothesline News Network.

17. Strange to watch CNN last night reading tweets & using video from an online Chilean TV station
that I had already found and was watching online. At that point, their info sources were no better than mine as ordinary net user.

They did, however, talk to the Pres of CNN Chile in Santiago who at that time could only report what it was like to be thrown out of bed by the quake.

16. It may not be safe to go there yet.
They are experiencing huge aftershocks in the 7-7.5 or so range.

Trust me, you wouldn't wanna go there right now.

18. NBC probably will, eventually. May not be dramatic enough to send Al Roker, as they did with Haiti.
(I'm being snarky.) The varsity team...Brian Williams..."parachuted" in for a few days in Haiti & then split. Maybe they'll do the same after the Olympics for the nightly news show.

20. MSNBC doesn't claim to be a nooz channel. They're "The Place For Politics"
Which is even cheaper than nooz.
