2. How many months were you behind?

I'm going into a two month grace period right now, already 5 months behind. I assume (and have read) that my loan modification will happen after the grace period.

I have two months to find a job, or else it's all over.

But I let the servicer know early that I wanted to take advantage of the HAMP program and was willing to let the home go into foreclosure if they weren't going to cooperate.

Oops, you can't -- their house was foreclosed a month ago. I came home from work one night to find all their stuff on the front lawn & a sheriff's deputy overseeing the eviction.
