Cop Rapes Transsexual Man in San Antonio. (Transman)
http://www.ksat.com/news/4600442/detail.html :scared: :grr:

Article wins award for most frequent use of the word "transsexual" ever in print. It's completely bizarre and dehumanizing in an odd way.

1. I'm as outspoken a critic of police as anyone here, but your headline assumes guilt
and is not the actual headline. The actual headline is: Transsexual Accuses SAPD Officer Of Rape

I agree with you, though, about the overuse of the word "transsexual" in the article. In my view, rape is rape, and it shouldn't matter whether the accuser is transsexual.

9. Turns out there was a conviction and the story was older.
It was related on Facebook today for some reason and had my partner upset (he's tg).

12. In case of conviction, I hope that cop's sentence was more harash than a civilian rapist's
conviction would be. People in positions of public trust should be held to a higher standard when they abuse their power.

3. I knew someone who was raped by a police officer
in a small town where everyone knows everyone. She tried reporting it and they laughed at her. She ended up leaving town.

8. Federal Grand Jury?
I did notice that although he was arrested by local police it was a Federal grand jury that indicted him. Not sure if that means locals wouldn't charge him or not?

7. Sorry, it was related on Facebook as if it was recent and my partner was upset by it.
Assumed it was recent.

13. He got 24 years.
About right in my opinion. This is exactly the kind of violence that the police and prisons are designed to prevent/punish. I'm not a fan of excessively long prison sentences but violent crime causing bodily injury is the type I want punished.

11. They finally got the pronoun correct in the closing lines but
why do I have the feeling that the editorial room struggled with the word 'it.'

14. I knew several SAPD Officers that were pissed about this. Because now the department put trackers
on their cars. They were complaining that the station knows where they are now all the time.

I guess no more sleeping under the overpass or attacking citizens.
