The Tea Party's Military Wing
Oath Keepers, which recruits soldiers and police to resist federal "tyranny," has become a hub in the sprawling anti-Obama movement.

This is an interesting thing to remember. There is an organizing, violent dark side to some of the Tea Bagging crowd. Appears as though it is a monster with growing tendrils.

3. What is really scary is the amount of people signing up quickly on their website and
also the fact that they have tied themselves to various persons thus pulling in either officially or non-officially all the Tea-baggers in a sense without their knowing about it.

4. But none will call them terrorists.
Because of their light skin, and political orientation. Just watch.

5. Meh, more overwrought paranoia on both sides.
This has been going on as long as I have been alive and nothing ever happens. A bunch of armchair wankers on the fringe. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

14. Actually, yes.
People only notice when they have reason to notice. It has always been there. I've lived in places where it was practically the local social club.

Every so often the media takes an interest, trumps it up, and then forgets shortly thereafter.

22. Keep one thing in mind...
If their members are giving name, rank, and base, and letting themselves be photographed for interviews where they talk about insurrection while still wearing the uniform, I'm not sure I'd worry about how many ducks they have in a row.

I try to keep an eye on groups like the Oath Keepers, but for the most part I'm less alarmed than amused by them.

12. So is this the brownshirt sign-up list?
They might want to remember what happened to the brownshirts after they were no longer useful.

18. So the guy interviewed in the story...
lists his rank, first & middle name, location he is stationed, and detailed descriptions and photographs of tattoos and his face...

I hope they're all as smart as this guy.

25. but he's hiding, under the radar so to speak.
We've gone through the looking glass, now the rightest wing is anti war (gathering of eagles??), 9/11 truthers, and wanting to stop government spending(except for their own medicare).

I especially like the comment that "people can vote with their feet if they don't like the gun laws in one area of the new country".

America, love it or beat feet.

19. Gotta love Pfc. Pray's tattoo there...
"THOR" across the knuckles.

Once - just once - I'd like to see someone with a substantial interest/reverence/whatnot for Norse mythology who isn't a brownshirt or worse. I'm generally an openminded agnostic and people big enough on Norse mythology to ink themselves with it never fail to squick me out now.

(Seriously, has anyone out there ever encountered an Asatru who isn't a bigot at the very best? I'm genuinely desperate for counterexamples.)

They must be as much a mixed bag as any other religion.

28. That's close enough to a counterexample for me
That actually makes me feel quite a bit better.

I've met a few dozen in different places and times, and every single one was a thinly-veiled bigot at best and an explicit, Prussophile fascist at worst. It was starting to bother me quite a bit; I really, really don't like feeling that comfortable deciding a member of a religion is ipso facto a bad person and had been trying to find or at least hear about exceptions for awhile.

21. Monster?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpuyXdKx9Ws

"But it's protectors and friends have been sleeping
now it's a monster and will not obey!" John Kay/Steppenwolf

The Chicago Political Convention mess was described as a "police riot" by the subsequent investigating comission.

"This guy could turn a parking ticket into a riot faster than anyone we've ever seen!" A NH police chief, on the subject of a loser fired from 5 NH pd's - one of them for shooting a hole in the roof of the cruiser.

There are some really good cops - but I bet they're not in Oath Keepers.

27. Sounds like the Oath Keepers are in it for . . . the Oath Keepers.
Bunch of White Nationalist wankers dressed head to toe in Camo claiming to be independent while attending and associating with nothing but arch-rightist events and having swelling membership rates AFTER late 2008. They can shove their Gadsens straight up their asses. You want to be suspicious of "liberals"? I'd be suspicious of cops that turn a blind eye to these assholes who brandish guns near where the President is going to be.

"Oath Keepers is officially nonpartisan" :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: Here's the thing, kiddies. When you hear the words "Apolitical", "non-partisan", "Independent" attributed by any site, group, movement . . . it's almost ALWAYS code for "Arch-Right Wing". Go bullshit someone else, Grand Cyclops.

You want to impress me? Invade CEO's homes and boardrooms. They're the REAL enemy of this country, and they're laughing their fat, stogie-huffing ASSES off at people like the Tea Klux Klan and the OathKeeps. They're doing more work for their rich "betters" than they even understand. Corporations are using the Oath Keeper's not-so-hidden bigotry to their advantage in keeping more and more whiteys divided and still fighting the Cold War, all the while distracting the looting. "Hey, if it means turning the guns on each other, that lets US off the hook! Keep it up, puppets!"
