2. That's right.
The minute somebody begins to be flexible in their thinking, they--by definition--become progressive.

3. I've been waiting for years for someone to get
"Republican" and "mind" into the same sentence. The best I was able to come up with before this was "I don't mind if you kick that Republican's ass around the block a couple of times."

7. on a related note, he's what happens when a republican tries to use "mind" in a sentence:
"what a terrible thing to have lost one's mind. or not to have a mind at all. how true that is."

4. You're exactly right. They never, ever, ever, ever admit to being wrong.

You could torture their grandma and take her to Gitmo and they'd raise the flag and salute.

5. That's because
You can't really be non-progressive and non-bigotted at the same time. That's sort of like saying your non-white and non-minority.

8. i'll go you one better: the republican party is PREDICATED on being wrong
everything they do --
-- the lying, the hypocrisy, to loyalty, the mockery;
-- with us or against us, good versus evil, liberal media, special rights, special interests;
-- the words they only say with a sneer: llliberal, socialist, leftist;
-- the distractions: earth tones, sighs, willie horton;
-- the quote-twisting: inventing the internet;
-- the rah-rah cheerleading: free-markets rah rah, tax cuts rah rah, build & drill rah rah

all of it.

these are carefully thought out and developed strategies that are used by a party that knows they are on the wrong side of the issues.

so much so that they don't want to have a debate on facts and lose on occassion, because they know they'll ALWAYS lose.
so they want political discourse to be about all these other things instead.

9. Are you calling the Chavez supporters Republicans?
I may not agree with them, but I would never call them such a thing.

10. Something progressives and others share in common with repubs! See there is common ground
we both demonize those on the other side in mass that we disagree with

13. To be a conservative you must buy into a whole package of belief from
being anti gay marriage to being pro gun. Taked onto this is low taxes for rich people though they never run on that. The result? Low taxes for rich people.
