Is this a new scam or one that finally landed on my doorstep:
2 charges turned up on my debit card over the week-end. Both have toll free numbers attached. I canceled both at my bank and the bank canceled my account number. I'll be getting a new debit card later.

now for the good part - the first outfit has some kind of fake 888 number. Call them and you get a busy signal or are told the line is out of service.

the second outfit routes you through voice message hell. The computer told me what I had supposedly bought, but the computer mumbled. I re-dialed and went through all the voice messages to get to a real person. Before connecting me, the recording threatened me with fraud charges and warned I might be embarrassed if people knew what I was buying. It turned out to be an adult Web site.

So, all I can figure is that the first outfit sends through random phony numbers until they get a hit. They took some cash, then re-sold the number to another outfit. I'm not sure if my number got sold directly to the adult web site, to a fake adult web site or to some jackass trying to get to an adult web site for for a cut rate.

1. There was a mass compromise over the weekend.
Don't let them tell you different.

I was caught up in it, too.

2. I wondered about that - I think I was the only one caught at my
savings and loan - or at least the only one aware of this so far.

So much for all those intricate pin numbers and passwords people work out. You might as well use 1234!
