Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- When former "Growing Pains" actor Andrew Koenig missed his flight home to Los Angeles from Vancouver, British Columbia, last week, his father became worried.

Walter Koenig, an actor known for playing Pavel Chekov in the original "Star Trek" series, had just received a letter from his son that had a "despondent tone," according to a family statement on the father's Web site.

Two days later -- on February 18 -- the elder Koenig and his wife, Judy Koenig, called Vancouver police to report his 41-year-old son missing, Detective Raymond Payette said.

"Andrew has recently been despondent and his family and friends are concerned for his well-being," a police statement said.

The Koenigs are reaching out for public help, but their son's disappearance is too painful for them to appear on camera to talk about it, Walter Koenig said.

2. He probably just went somewhere isolated to get away and think.
Who hasn't wanted the luxury of doing that?

But I'm sending good thoughts and vibe his way, and to his family!

7. Another thread states he sold all his possessions
That is not a good sign, if true. I can think of only one reason someone appearing to be depressed would sell or give away the things s/he owns, because it happens all too often when people are about to do it.

Saying it may not make it so, but I'd rather not say what 'it' is anyway.

8. Yes, that doesn't sound good at all.
And certain places in Vancouver are NOT a good place to be if you're depressed, or worse. Hopefully he's just taking time to think and will be found safe.

13. A shame...
But that's what you get when you let your kid associate with a Christian fuckface like Kirk Cameron.

14. Is that the Andrew Koenig who is part of the Jimmy Pardo
"Never Not Funny" Podcast?

Seems like they said last week he'd gone to Canada.

If it is, he's the brother of Jimmy Pardo's wife.

I hope he's found soon.
