Don't get me wrong -- I think the response Dennis Kucinich gave at the debate in regards to the lack of raised hands to support impeachment of Cheney was quite good. I loved that he raised his copy of the US Constitution. He made some very good points, but I think he could have had a greater impact in the time alotted if he had responded something like this:
The question I'd like to see answered by the other candidates -- with explanations, rather than raised hands -- is whether or not they think Vice President Cheney has indeed committed "high crimes and misdemeanors" that require his impeachment. Political support (or lack thereof) for impeachment proceedings is one thing, but their duty as members of Congress to uphold our Constitution and rule of law is another. There is a growing mountain of evidence that Mr. Cheney was the driving force behind misrepresentations of intelligence and outright lies regarding Iraqi WMD and an alliance with al Qaeda that our intelligence agencies discounted from the start. The importance of this matter goes well beyond partisan and electoral politics. Our country was deliberately misled into a disastrous war that has already cost us half a trillion dollars and the lives of 3,333 Americans in uniform. The conduct of the vice president must be fully exposed and Constitutionally dealt with. We owe nothing less to the American people and to the brave men and women who are giving their lives overseas.
