China's Pearl River manufacturing hub 'lacks workers' (BBC)
By Chris Hogg
BBC News, Shanghai

China is facing a shortage of workers in the Pearl River Delta manufacturing hub in southern China.

Some estimates suggest factories need two million more migrant workers from other parts of China.

The shortages have been highlighted in Chinese media as the country gets back to work after the week-long Spring Festival, or Lunar New Year holiday.

Expectations of higher wages and better working conditions from new workers are being blamed for the labour shortage.

Factories in southern China started reporting that it was hard to find enough workers last August, as orders picked up after the financial crisis.

Although it is hard to get meaning out of their bizarre emails.

3. China has been the place to invest for 15 years. I moved 98% of my retirement fund money into
far east investments 10 years ago, mainly China- 2% into US growth funds. I had to sign a waver stating I had disregarded advice from the investment plan by putting such a large percentage in "risky" foreign investments and that negative results would be my fault. I NEVER made less than 8%, usually over 10% on my far East investments.

I retired at age 59, on the first day I was eligible. If I were investing for growth now, I'd put it all in China and Europe...just maybe 5-10% in US green energy stocks and maybe a little in Ford. I may do it again just for the hell of it.

2. Funny things happen when workers realize they produce everything and don't want to be treated like
slaves. They want an "American" dream too. At some point the jobs would come back because China is on top and we are on the bottom...

4. china is the usa from the late 1800 to early 1900
unregulated capitalism ,military used to stop the labor movement, and deplorable (by western standards) working conditions.

but do`t worry..most of south east asia and india`s labor force works cheaper and in more deplorable conditions. so we`ll always have cheap goods to satisfy our needs.......
