He from '65-'78, me from '75-'82

Michigan Central became New York Central became Penn Central became Conrail

What a shame as to what happened to that beautiful building, marble walls, floors, and was very ornate on the outside/inside. Now it is like a gigantic tombstone signifying the death of manufacturing in Detroit. The year that Conrail made its first profit, (81) management in Philadelphia HQ began laying off employees en-masse. (including me)

I really regret not having taken a camera to work during my years working there, but how was I to know what it's fate was to be back then? (as well as the growing interest in its past now)

Conrail was eventually sold to the Norfolk Southern and CSX RR, who partly abandoned its lines of track and built new ones to accommodate the new auto plants being built in the South by foreign automakers. This is what helped the domestics lose marked share, as before it was very costly for them to have to transport their vehicles to the Northeast using only trucks.
