if they fuck this thing up.

They can still salvage real Healthcare reform, but they would have to twist arms, name names, go around the filibuster, and piss off the lobbyists who get them money.

In other words, they'd have to become actual modern day Profiles In Courage, and roll the dice that the American people will reward them for standing up for THEM over the monied interests.

And ya know what ??? I'm OK with that.

Let's see if the party I've supported for the past 36 years deserve to have that support any longer.

8. The public wants action. My hope is that they can get public option. If not, Dems will still
be rewarded even if they pass all of the popular insurance reforms such as stopping pre-existing conditions exemption, the exchange, allowing competition across state lines, etc. Get a health bill DONE and get a job bill DONE and the GOP is TOAST !

6. It will be unless they realize that 70% of the people want it,

and that they want real reform and a public option, not another way for corporate America to raid and pillage our Treasury.

13. I have been following this issue since Hillarycare, and there has been
consistent polling between 55% and 75% of Americans in favor of national health care at various times in that time frame to the present. The polls numbers go down when the for profit health care industry publicists swoop in and temporarily scare people about the horrors of national health care in Europe and Canada, but when they go away and people realize that other countries do it better than us the numbers go up in favor of it. So for more than a decade Americans have demonstrated that they are in the majority in wanting some meaningful public health care legislation on this issue. Now it's time for our leaders to listen or they will find themselves unpopular and unsupported by the majority and that means Democrats. The minority conservatives don't care because they don't cater to the majority but the minority industries and wealthy billionaires attached to them.

There are so many even recent polls on this that it would be ridiculous to try to put them all up, something that DUers have been doing for years and up to the present. There are many websites that do polling and carry published poll numbers on them. So I think you can do your own Googling on this.

12. I'm OK with that, too, WillyT.
I'd be fine with having a genuine "showdown".

Challenge the GOP to an evening televised debate---two hours for each side of the health care debate.

Give the nation 48 hours to digest, discuss and conact their legislators---and then VOTE!

No filibuster BS. Majority wins.

If we win, fine.

If we lose, we lost trying to do the right thing in an open and honest manner. And, the result will be more honorable than passing a "compromise" bill that bows to the Blue Dogs and a couple of opportunistic Republicans.
