Stupid can't be fixed...
I know it is not politically correct to call your opponents "stupid". You can never persuade them to your point of view by calling them names. But there comes a time when we need to face the cold hard facts. Republicans are stupid.

They never want to raise taxes. For anything. They believe they can bring in more money into the Treasury by cutting taxes. They cite Ronald Reagan as an example. However, Ronald Reagan had to agree to raise taxes when his deficits reached record heights. Also, if the FICA taxes had not been raised on average working people, his deficits would have been much larger. He even raised taxes by taxing unemployment insurance, the most vulnerable people in our society.

It is stupid to think you can balance the budget without raising taxes. At the same time, it is stupid to think you can spend over a $trillion dollars every two years on the military and not have to pay for it. It cannot be done. They are living in a fantasy world.

It is not possible to negotiate with stupid. They do not deal with reality or the facts. This is a problem that cannot be fixed with "bi-partisanship".

2. They do sound stupid, I agree, but they are crafty,
and have played this game for a LONG TIME. They don't 'believe' what 'we' say they do; they say what works for them. Dems/Libs haven't figured out how to deal with it successfully. Its about time we do.

3. I hope you'll write letters to the editor, etc.
The problem is that between the Internet and other media, it's faster and easier to spread lies, and of course people eat them up. But we should use the same media to confront the lies. If you change even a few minds, you'll have done your job.

The right's concerted effort to canonize Reagan has been very effective, and of course there are a lot of people with short memories and quite a few who are too young to have any understanding of the Reagan years. So when some bozo starts lying about U.S. policy in Central America or the Middle East during the '80s, or the state of the economy back then, or tax policy, call them out. Don't let a lie become the accepted norm.

4. letters to the editor
Good luck writing letters to the editor, etc. Over the past year, I have written dozens of letters to a supposedly liberal newspaper, the Washington Post, and I had one letter printed. During the same period, they have printed hundreds of articles about Sarah Palin, and they hang on her every word. Why they take her seriously, I cannot understand, because she is so obviously some sort of shyster. Perhaps it would help if liberals wrote more letters, then they would take ME seriously.

7. Here's the thing about raising taxes:
There is so much waste in government right now, that if we reduced corruption and waste and the MASSIVE revenue stream for the MIC, we could probably lower taxes and provide more/better health and human services.

That's why I get hives when politicians talk about raising taxes. Please don't call me stupid for wanting my money to be spent wisely.

9. But Republicans would never vote to cut the military.
They would cut the programs most needed by the people. That is stupid.

10. On that we are in complete agreement
I think the money we pay in taxes should go right back into making life better here at home, rather than creating death and destruction overseas. :hi:

13. Reagan also fucked with the unemployment numbers by including the military for the first time.
Think about it - the military is 100% employed. Add a collection of 100% to a collection of < 100% and the net percentage will improve every time. Total bullshit.

14. The stupid led by the evil.
Not all of them are stupid, but you have to either be an idiot or an asshole in order to be a Republican today.
