Dick Armey To GOP: Be 'Courageous,' Consider Social Security And Medicare Cuts
Good thing we have a Democratically controlled Presidency and Legislature, right? Right??

===

Former Republican Majority Leader Dick Armey said in an interview that Republicans would be wise to talk straight about making cuts to Social Security and Medicare if they really want to cut the deficit.

TPMDC interviewed Armey at CPAC yesterday, and we asked him about Rep. Paul Ryan's budget roadmap we've been following that cuts privatizes Social Security and creates a voucher system for Medicare.

Armey (R-TX) was an architect of the Contract with America that helped Republicans win control of Congress in 1994. When we asked, he at first danced around the issue but then agreed "Yes," the Ryan plan is the smart way to go if the GOP is "courageous."

1. cut the benefits rather than raise the cap - typical repub solution
after all, SS recipients won't be around to vote too many more years.

Armey is a true SOB.

3. that's their first course of action -
strip the wealth from the poor. on the other hand, i cannot see this going over well with so much of the base who are dependent on these programs.

i so despise these heartless greedmeisters and hatemongers.

4. Makes me sad that I alienated the local Repubs and they removed me
from their e-mail lists. }( I mean after mean ol' Nancy Pelosi and "her gang of criminals voted not to raise the COLA on SS this year" now they got their Chief TeaBagger waving his Dickness in their face(s)!

5. Typical Republican
He isn't called Dick for nothing. I get it our taxes can pay for bonuses that buy yachts and private jets but not for retirement and healthcare.

6. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...
Make this the cornerstone of the GOP 2010 & 2012 election strategies...

At least the Democrats waited to get elected to start doing and saying stupid things (see Iraq, Afghanistan, opposing gay marriage, ad nauseum). The GOP is trying to alienate constituents BEFORE THEY EVEN GET ELECTED!

I say we step back and let the magic happen...

12. I believe it is happening already, and I applaud each time I see
a really nasty GOPer making some statement like that.
Democrats must make sure no one forgets all this before election time. Remember, when Mr. Dick was Majority Leader, they were talking about the republican congressional majority being permanent....kind of like Hitler's 1,000 year reich. Oops.

13. That's OK. According to the GOP, Obama's going to pull my plug, anyway.
Armey makes me cringe.

10. Easy for Armey to say because he has nothing to lose.
Watch and see what happens to a politician that does it.

Goodbye political career.

16. Good idea
Pluto is now just a number (#134340) so outer space is good. If we lost Pluto, well we can lose the assholes.
