Frozen dog leads to arrest

The death of a German shepherd, found frozen to the floor of a plastic doghouse, has led to a felony animal cruelty charge against an Omaha woman.

Yolonda Glover, 32, of 4040 Curtis Ave., was arrested at her home at 7 a.m. today by members of the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force, said Mark Langan, vice president of field operations for the Nebraska Humane Society.

Glover was charged in a warrant with felony animal cruelty, a charge that carries a potential prison term of up to five years.

On Feb. 1, Langan said, the Humane Society received an anonymous phone call about the adult dog. Investigators found that the dog, named Tramp, had been left for up to two weeks with no food or water, Langan said. A necropsy on the dog found that it had died of starvation and hypothermia.

"This is one of the worst (cases) we've seen," Langan said.

1. Do not get a freakin' animal if you can't love it and care for it properly.
This pisses me off so badly.

2. Why do I read these threads?
I only end up crying and envisioning the physical pain I could afflict on these assholes.

Sometimes I really disagree with the 8th amendment.

3. That poor, poor dog.
Horrible woman. I hope prison is as cruel to her as she was to that dog.

5. Sometimes I wonder
if we as a human race/species will ever get past the point of primitive, thoughtless behavior such as this.

I wonder what happened to this woman that created such monsterous behavior. Was she a victim of abuse herself? Seems likely.

My heart goes out to that dog and every animal who is a victim of heartless cruelty and torture.

I am ashamed of the human race sometimes.

6. I think many people are still raised to view animals as objects...
without awareness, or without a soul, or what-have-you. They don't view their pets as creatures that can experience suffering and who fall under the purview of ethical treatment.

8. This happens all too often in the far north
I have been to Alaskan villages in the Aleutians and have seen dead frozen dogs that didn't make it overnight. They are made to live in a 55 gallon drum laid on it's side and on the ice. Thirty/forty below zero, doesn't matter, the dogs are left outside. Sad thing to see, but it is the norm in dog sled country.
