Tiger Woods: "I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior"
On live right now, saying his "behavior over time" is the only way he can apologize to his wife, Elin.

"I have let you down, and I have let down my fans."

9. Don't a lot of rehab programs require the person to apologize to all they've hurt...well
in this case, he can't just do it @ a family dinner because he hurt tons of people. They also have to apologize in person and not in writing...that's what I've heard.

TeeV is the best way to get it out.

17. Well that's convenient for him.
Instead of going to each person he hurt and apologizing face to face, he just brings down the TV networks and just does it the quickest and most convenient way...

41. If your cousin knows him.
I see this whole thing as really affecting only people in his personal life. I see it as irrelevant to golf and the viewing public. It really shouldn't be a public story, in my opinion anyway.

A diversion to stick it to the former sponsor.

31. Yeah, you're right....I was just expecting it to be more "public relations" and less "therapy" if
you know what I mean.

I would respect it a lot more if it was PR. Now it does seem pathetic cause it seems like a power trip by his therapist. He could have done a great "make amends speech" via a New York Times Op-Ed or something or on 20-20.

16. He's doing a good job. I don't condone for a minute what he did
but as a therapist I see many people who do things like this, and until I know otherwise (i.e. he didn't write the statement) I see language that speaks about what he did, not what happened to him. He hurt many, many people and if he steps up I wish him the best. No excuses, but he did what he did for a reason and I hope he gets help for the problems that contributed to it, and any other that might come up as he works on it. Condemning him forever helps no one.

35. I like the way he delivers "my peers in therapy" with a little sing-song lilt...
with what sounded like 3-4 notes with a slide at the end. Like when Ellen says you can tell when people aren't really sorry when they use 3 notes to sing it - "I'm so-rry". He's had plenty of time to practice this delivery too would be my guess. Its over now, but from what I caught it was one of the best renditions of The Cheater's Prayer, I heard in quite some time

42. Uh oh, now you've done it!
Times have changed
Our kids are getting worse
They won't obey their parents
They just want to fart and curse
Should we blame the government?
Or blame society?
Or should we blame the images on TV?
No!
Blame Canada
Blame Canada
With all their beady little eyes
And flapping heads so full of lies
Blame Canada
Blame Canada
We need to form a full assault
It's Canada's fault!

Don't blame me
For my son Stan
He saw the darn cartoon
And now he's off to join the Klan
And my boy Eric once
Had my picture on his shelf
But now when I see him he tells me to fuck myself
Well,
Blame Canada
Blame Canada
It seems that everything's gone wrong
Since Canada came along
Blame Canada
Blame Canada
They're not even a real country anyway

My son could've been a doctor or a lawyer rich and true
Instead he burned up like a piggy on the barbecue
Should we blame the matches?
Should we blame the fire?
Or the doctors who allowed him to expire?
Heck, no!
Blame Canada
Blame Canada
With all their hockey hullabaloo
And that bitch Anne Murray too
Blame Canada
Shame on Canada
For...
The smut we must stop
The trash we must bash
The laughter and fun
Must all be undone
We must blame them and cause a fuss
Before somebody thinks of blaming us!

It really is no damn body's business what he and Elin decide and I am glad he said it. The media is like buzzards surrounding a dead carcass. Now for the rest of the day they will spend time stretching and bending what he said so that they can find some irregularity for their newscast. Leave the man alone. Someone has already said that he did not apologize to the women he slept with. Those skanks don't deserve an apology. They knew what they were doing and immediately tried to cash in on their fifteen minutes of fame. Anyway, he has enough money to ignore the whole mess and sip magaritas in Key West on his yacht.

67. I have a problem with the arrogance displayed at a friends only

press conference where no questions were allowed. That displays an arrogance and a lack of honesty and openess in my opinion. He is just trying to fool the public yet again.

70. I understand where you're coming from
but a lot of us here perpettually complain at the media either distorting the truth or even inventing news. In his shoes we'd probably have done the same. Yes - it was his decision to shut out some but not all of the press partly to teach them a lesson I guess.

If it had been one of the Kennedys putting their hands up to all and sundry I doubt they would've allowed questions either.

81. ...because of media in this country determined to pimp "scandals" about sex constantly
And no company likes bad press. It doesn't change the fact that he didn't get those deals becuase he was a nice, wholesome guy. He got them because he torched people in tournaments on Sunday.

90. Good. Golf is BORING to watch anyway.
I was tired of it being on TV.

Oh - and Peyton Manning - who doesn't cheat on his wife as far as we know is well on his way to being a billionaire.

92. I found that
until I tried it and then started playing occasionally. Give it a try sometime - who knows you might find you like it too.

49. Too bad for golf, an ancient and interesting game, that it has wrapped itself around
one of the least interesting people on the face of the earth.

except the media.

83. That's fine, but he promised his wife otherwise.
Either don't get married in the first place, or have an "open" marriage agreement, or get divorced first before "activating" your hormones.

69. Backlash: players, media speaking out, standing up to Tiger
So this is how it's going to go. Tiger Woods, rather than getting a hero's welcome for his return to golf, is being met with scorn, derision and a level of disrespect that would have been unthinkable even three months ago.

The news that Woods would hold his landmark press conference on the Friday of the Accenture infuriated other players, who are increasingly less shy about speaking up. "It’s selfish,” Ernie Els told Golfweek. “You can write that. I feel sorry for the sponsor. Mondays are a good day to make statements, not Friday. This takes a lot away from the golf tournament.” Rory McIlroy noted that Woods could well be trying to stick it to Accenture, which is sponsoring this weekend's tournament.

The fact that players are not just speaking out, but speaking out against Woods, is a phenomenal shift. He's owned both the careers and the heads of most of his fellow Tour pros for more than a decade, but it appears that his mental domination may be at an end.

Another bunch all too often cowed into silence by Woods was the golf media. The entire operation of the Friday morning press conference was long a bone of contention for journalists. The idea that Tiger would simply talk on a closed-circuit camera to journalists sitting in a hotel conference room a mile away disgusted people who believe Woods ought to answer questions, if not about his family -- which is a justifiably off-limits target -- then at least about the way his actions have affected the hundreds of people who have millions of dollars at stake in protecting his image.

77. I don't know, and I have to admit, who really cares? Woods is a man
out of control, and who wants that control back very much. It appears that the press does not appreciate his entitlement attitude.

82. The press doesn't appreciate that he doesn't stroke them off constantly
The press hated Ted Williams for the same reason long ago.
