Feingold in for public option through reconciliation; Reid says reconciliation on the table
by: Chris Bowers
Thu Feb 18, 2010 at 17:57

After a meeting today with Senator Feingold, Open Left reader PR writes in:

Feingold is in for P.O. through rec

That makes 34 supporters of using reconciliation to finish health reform, and 20 in favor of the public option. See the whip count here.

Further, I have received confirmation from Senator Reid's office that "all options are still on the table," including reconciliation. The aide with whom I spoke also reiterated to me that Senator Reid supports the public option. While that is a "yes" and a "maybe," given the way we are counting votes, they are still positive.

2. If we get a good public option before November we don't lose as many seats as predicted.
All the Dems have to do is show that they are tougher than the repubs and can stand together to get a progressive agenda passed.

It's do or die time now. The only way to get back the left is through the public option. The only way to win the center is by showing strength and unity and passing this thing. 51 is all we need.

A perfectly succinct summary when it appears on DU.

So GoWest...... :patriot:

"It's do or die time now. The only way to get back the left is through the public option. The only way to win the center is by showing strength and unity and passing this thing. 51 is all we need."

That's the whole shootin' match in 4 quick sentences.

18. Reid is facing a tough reelection campaign.
and if he continues to let himself be painted as a wuss, he WILL lose.

He's probably going to lose no matter what, but his only chance is to show the public he has some testicles, by fighting the GOP and pushing for a public option.

24. Does it matter if Prez O has his own 'plan' w/ NO Public Option?
... there's a thread (or several) here today summarizing the plan he's bringing to the 'summit' and apparently there's no Public Option mentioned in it.

So now we finally get the Senators to do the right thing and he's still gonna screw us??
