VIRALIZE public option letter calls
Edited on Thu Feb-18-10 12:55 PM by yurbud
I sent the following email to my friends and family about the public option letter. Maybe we could expand our reach if we asked people we know personally in other states to call as well, especially those whose senators aren't on board.

Feel free to plagiarize and edit this:

16 senators have signed a letter calling on Harry Reid to pass the public option through reconciliation, a maneuver that only requires a simple majority instead of two-thirds, so the Democrats could have enough votes to do it.

Both of California's senators have signed, but a lot of Democrat reps haven't. I sent this email to my friends and family in Oregon since Sen. Wyden hasn't signed yet. If you have friends in states where their senators haven't signed, send this to them. If you think they won't look up the phone number, they can get it here with just their zip code:
http://www.contactingthecongress.org/

Call your congressman's offices today and urge your out of state friends to http://whipcongress.com">check this list and see if theirs has signed and call if they haven't. The same website will give you a short script for the call. It will take less than a minute.

http://whipcongress.com/

I'll give you an even shorter one:

"Hi, has Congressman (or Senator _________ signed the letter to Harry Reid demanding that the public option be passed through reconciliation?"

If they say YES say:

"Thank you. Tell him I'm glad he did."

If they say NO say:

"Could you tell him that I want him to sign it and I'm a constituent?"

and that's it.

Pass this along to any others who would prefer we have a health insurance system a little more like the rest of the civilized world.

5. Thanks for that
I'm going to have to call the local office. I was disconnected while on hold, now all I get is a busy signal to the DC office.

4. Called Dodd's office an hour ago. A staffer said he was out of the
country on official business and was not accessible for signing on to a Dear Colleague type of thing. She said he was "undecided" at this point on the legislation. I told her I was aware of his colleagues who had signed on, such as John Kerry, and I asked her to pass along my urgent plea that Dodd do so as well. And I stressed that I was a colleague residing in New Haven.

I'm calling back if I don't hear something in the next few days...I can't imagine why he wouldn't sign on, given his long friendship and affinity with Teddy K.

I'm surprised and a bit disappointed but not giving up hope yet...

The majority of Americans want this - a public option.
Which is on page 10 of the 2008 Democratic Party Platform (did he not read it?!).

If nothing else, he should represent the majority of Americans and his friend, Ted (and we know Sen. Centerfold isn't for it...he has a truck though).

7. All I could get was voice mail from the local office
~but I used my recording time well to explain why Wyden should sign onto the push for a simple majority vote on the public option.

Are people who are calling other senators having as much difficulty getting through?

20. Excellent! I always keep my communications short and sweet,
and depending on the issue, I often just add, "if not, I'll be contributing to his/her opponent's campaign." I usually save that for e-mails, because I doubt if the person answering the phone/taking tally passes along anything but the yea or nay vote.

:hi:
