this year has to be to the gut of the electorate rather than their reason.
Right now reading Drew Westen's "The Political Brain" and his thesis has overwhelming evidence that we have emotions about politics and issues before we find the reasons for them. "When emotion roared, reason buckled at the knees."
The tea partiers and repubs have done a good job of stirring anxiety and fear about our president and Democrats in general and our weak response has been reasonable and intelligent. We have to bat back with as much emotion as the ball of crud they are throwing with. The electorate will be mobilized by the fear and anxiety that under the repubs we will have more division and less prosperity because of what they believe in. They need to be angered by the idea that those on the other side have no respect for them or their intelligence. In fact that the other side despises their ability to vote and have ideas not in agreement with the very rich and connected. The control of society that seems so enticing is really a way to make them the peasants their ancestors were and which caused those ancestors to immigrate to America to escape.
Instead of fighting about intelligence or reason amongst ourselves we need to focus outward on the reactionaries and regressives on the right who are destroying us from the inside of the political system.:kick:
