Pedal parts supplier CTS says 'This is Toyota's recall'
The auto-parts supplier to Toyota that has been pinpointed as making the parts that are at the heart of the automaker's unprecedented decision to halt sales of eight models has a simple message: don't blame us.

The supplier, CTS, contends it made all the parts to Toyota's specifications and is unaware of them being considered at fault in any accidents, Automotive News says.

Plus, the News points out, Toyota certainly hasn't ended its relationship with CTS:

CTS makes the gas pedal assembly that's being blamed for unintended acceleration incidents. Toyota says a part in the assembly can wear, causing the accelerator pedal to stick. It stopped selling eight models this week, including its biggest sellers, Camry and Corolla.

Mitchell Walorski, head of CTS investor relations in Elkhart, Ind., says CTS has "no knowledge of any accident or injury" stemming from the accelerator assemblies it supplies Toyota, he said. And while its engineers are helping Toyota, he adds, "This is their recall." He tells the News that CTS was not consulted about a recall.

4. Agreed.
They don't have design specs for the entire car, Toyota does.

Now if NTSB finds out the faulty pedals aren't being made to spec that would be their fault.

However if Toyota said make this sprocket to specs x, y, z and then do and it still fails then fault is 100% of Toyota.

12. Bet the QA people at CTS had a serious "OH SHIT" moment...
when the news of the problems started breaking.

Followed by a collective sigh of relief, and perhaps even some celebrating, when it became apparent that the problem wasn't theirs.

5. My sister is a buyer for a parts supplier
Edited on Wed Feb-17-10 05:06 PM by notadmblnd
she buys parts for all makes and models. Her main objective is to get them to cut costs. It's a constant process of demanding they produce the same parts for lower costs. I'm sure many suppliers have been forced to use cheaper material in producing their parts at the request of the automakers.

10. Yep, brakes built by the low bidder...
which go out on an icey bridge that's collapsing (also built by the low bidder!).

We need to quit fixating on cost and concern ourselves with quality. Oh, but that might mean we have to create jobs IN AMERICA, and not China or India, something the corparatists won't allow.

6. Toyots is also recalling Prius's and other models that have nothing
to do with CTS's brake assemblies.

Just announced this afternoon that they "may be recalling" Camry models for transmission problems.
(I heard it on CNN, so it must be true.)

Toyota can't blame the vendor if Toyota designed the parts-the vendor just follows their design.

8. The Prius brake problem is unrelated to the CTS accelerator pedal problem in several other models
CTS Corp doesn't do brakes.

11. You are correct - I was not quite awake earlier - I meant the accelerator assembly.
Evidently the Camry steering problem has been around for a while and no one mentioned it in public....

7. The new outsourcer's meme is that the Obama admin is out to destroy Toyota!
This, after Toyota was the number one beneficiary of Cash for Clunkers! :wow:

9. I want to know were all the 'blame CTS' hacks are now......
I hope they collapse under the weight of their misdeeds and recalls.
