2002: Alabama shooter shouts "I am Dr. Amy Bishop" and punches a woman
Alabama Professor Charged in Shooting Reportedly Charged With '02 Assault
Tuesday, February 16, 2010

PEABODY, Mass. — An Alabama professor accused of fatally shooting three colleagues last week had previously admitted in court to punching a woman in a tirade over a booster seat at a Massachusetts restaurant.

Citing a police report, WBZ-AM and The Boston Globe both reported Tuesday that Amy Bishop was charged with assault after the incident in 2002 at the International House of Pancakes in Peabody.

The police report says Bishop became incensed when she found out the other woman had received the restaurant's last booster seat. Bishop hit the woman and shouted multiple times, "I am Dr. Amy Bishop," the report says

1. More evidence of erratic behavior by this woman
add this on top of the case of shooting her brother and now University employees......what a disaster.

4. Geez...
if only she'd been actually charged and convicted of SOMETHING along the way she'd never have made it to UAB-Huntsville.

10. They were probably looking at her glowing FICO score
and based their hiring decision on that point right there....

16. I'm curious to know her parents' connections
when she killed her brother. Looks like the worst of sibling rivalry - apparently the brother was a gifted violinist. This woman has loads of baggage.

7. If only her family had gotten her the psychiatric help she needed...
...rather than deny and cover for her year after year. There's plenty of guilt here to go around.

8. I fault the police dept. in her brother's case
more so than her parents. They dropped the case, what?!! They're involved in a coverup and are responsible, she would at least spent time in jail and would have never been hired by the university in the first place. That woman is about my age and she would have at least rec'd some psych help at that time, but murder at least would keep a person behind bars for awhile.

And who the hell sold her that gun w/no permit or registration? Why didn't her husband question her when she went to the shooting range (sounds like he went with her) with her own pistol? My husband knows whenever I make a purchase like that, although we're usually together because it's something we enjoy but I can't imagine not telling him where I got something like that. It just doesn't make sense (although she's not normal so maybe it did to her).

17. They say they didn't file charges but expected the DA to pursue it
The DA is a sitting congressman from Massachusetts, and he'll have lots of 'splaining to do around election time.

9. Where was she on the night Dan Rather got beat up?
This woman's history keeps getting worse. These events are tips of a handful of ice bergs and there are many more. I imagine people will start revealing their stories of run-ins with this dangerous psycho.

11. This woman should have been dealt with long long ago
She is obviously a disturbed individual that was let go by law enforcement over and over in regards to violent acts. Perhaps if they HAD arrested her, she would have gotten at the very LEAST some treatment for her mental illness.

20. Without the punch, the OP sounds like any other egotistical tenured prof
The only difference is that professors who are not Amy Bishop have slightly more impulse control.
