Justin Elliott | February 16, 2010, 6:52PM

The Norfolk County District Attorney has found and released the missing Braintree police report describing the 1986 incident in which Amy Bishop killed her teenage brother.

The DA concludes that, "The analysis of the newly received documents, as well as the previously released March 30, 1987 State Police report indicate that probable cause existed at that time to place Amy Bishop under arrest charged with:
Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Chap. 265 Sec. 15B
Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, Chap. 269 Sec. 10, 12D
Unlawful possession of ammunition, Chap. 269 Ch. 10 (h)"

However, "The statute of limitations has run on all of those charges" ... http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/02/local_police_report_found_and_released_in_86_bisho.php?ref=mp

1. Though this is an interesting side note, where did she buy her gun and ammo for the Alabama crime?

5. So the gun owner is banned from every owning another gun AND the place he bought it is shut down.
Follow the chain, and take the necessary punitive action.

3. The records support the mother's story that it was an accident -the potential charges were minor
not murder

4. Assault with a Dangerous Weapon is a "minor" charge?
I'd bet the assault charge would have been for the subsequent attempt to commandeer a get-away vehicle

8. Her argument was with the father, Sam, not the brother, Seth
It's not clear from the reports whether or not she intentionally killed her brother. However, given that her mother, the only witness, maintained that it was accidental, the case would be a hard one to prosecute. I tend to think the mother was lying, especially about not hearing the previous discharge in Amy's bedroom.
