The Olympics
Edited on Tue Feb-16-10 06:38 PM by oldlib
TV announcers are a joke. It's "The USA team" not "Team USA" They picked this jargon up from the Europeans and they think it's cool.

6. Actually, the Olympics are in Canada.
But as for Team USA, that's what they're called in American too. For a number of years now, actually.

19. And how, pray tell, does an American talk?
And if you're offended that people sound too foreigner-like, then yes, you're a xenophobe.

10. Hurricane Ridge
is very familiar to me. I was raised in Port Angeles, Washington, and I might add that I visited Victoria and Vancouver often and I can also speak Canadian.

12. You can, eh?
I used to visit Hurricane Ridge a lot just to get away from the city. I saw on the USFS website that the road to the top is closed due to a mudslide in January. Took out a 100 foot section of road.

Olympic National Park, which has been beaten and battered in recent years by powerful storms, lost a 100-foot section of roadway leading up to Hurricane Ridge when soil saturated by recent heavy rains slid and took out the road.

16. Well...
...for one thing all the silent 'u's.

You'd think you wouldn't notice them... cause they're silent. But we can tell.

13. Please say this thread was just an attempt at humor gone wrong.
Not only is your "say it the American way" complaint ridiculous on its own merits... the "American way" you are upset people are not using isn't the American way. I don't believe I have ever, in my entire life, heard a single person refer to an American olympic team a "The USA team".

It is ALWAYS either "team USA", or "the American team".
