Who Give a Rat's Ass about Bayh Leaving?
Evan Bayh was one of the true assholes of the Dem Caucus in the US Senate. His wife made millions as a corporate lackey, and the longer she did, the more he moved to the right. His politics were GOP to the max, and he was one of those members of the "corporate party" whose designation meant nothing. The Dems did nothing with a 60 vote majority which included this child of privilege, whom nepotism put in the US Senate. The more of these types who leave the congress, the more likely it is that real progressives just may be the ones left.

6. placton sad but true, they did nothing with the 60 seat majority anyway
I think it might have been "nicer" if Bayh had announced he was leaving sooner, to allow more time for other candidates to get into the mix. But that's about it. Probably won't make much of a difference anyway.

Politically, we will NEVER be able to advance a liberal agenda as long as the party is infested with these cretins who are more repuke than Ike ever was.

That filibuster-proof magic 60 didn't work out exactly, did it? And the Dems will not have that large a "numeric" advantage again.

So, how about trying to actually govern with a real Democratic majority somewhere in the low 50s? They cannot do any worse than they have this last year.

And if the pukes take over again, they will fuck up things so much that real Democrats would have a chance to achieve that real majority that they have not had for quite a while.

8. it is my hope that this year and '12
may send a message to the "geniuses" who manage the party of FDR that they need VOTES and workers as much as they need corpo-cash. At least no national money will go to Evan, tho those bad folks who spent so much on Blew Dogs won't be getting my paltry shillings anyhoo.

10. Check out Bayh's voting record (warning: this requires reading and thinking):
http://www.issues2000.org/Senate/Evan_Bayh.htm

There's lots and lots of votes here on nearly every issue. Check out the result based on his votes at the very bottom (I'm sure nobody will agree with it though):

Evan Bayh is a Populist-Leaning Liberal.

13. I think you might be better off tracking those votes
-whenever he voted "left" it was when his vote mattered not
-he has drifted far to the right over time

15. I expect he is pulling a Sarah Palin -- quitting because he hopes
to run for president on the slogan,"I am a centrist." His campaign theme will, of course, be lyrics based on the old Beatles classic, "I am a walrus." He has had presidential aspirations for a long, long time. And now that corporations can involve themselves in individual campaigns without limit, he will be able to outspend any competitor.

Bayh is not one to be scoffed at. He could draw centrist Democrats and lots of the old-school centrist Republicans who don't know what to think about the takeover of their party by the religious right -- the Palins, etc. Bayh would have the support of the kinds of wealthy and upper middle class people who used to support the Rockefeller crowd, the "moderate Republicans," as they called themselves.

These are the top and middle managers of a lot of businesses including some of the biggest businesses in the U.S.

Watch out. I suspect that Bayh knows exactly what he is doing and where he is going. And it means more of the same muddlin' in the middle.

20. The same bullshit was pushed to pretend that Spectre was not as bad as most know him to be.
Like Bayh, he cast safe votes with the Dems when it would not imperil the passage of some repuke POS. But when it came down to close, important issues, he (and Bayh) were there to vote the puke/corporate way.

And Bayh's actions this past year have been enough to disqualify him from that "populist-leaning liberal" label, if it ever was to any minor degree accurate.

Which should be just about everyone.

Yes... all 30-35 of them (if that). I'm sure they can hold a purity pity party when they can't even maintain a filibuster against another Scalia/Thomas.

And no doubt many on DU will feel betrayed without realizing that the glass they are peering through is actually a mirror.

Perhaps an orphanage? Community center? Corporate, for-profit health insurance company consultant? Oh which shall it be?

24. There is nothing wrong with conservative Dems
so long as they support the party on it's core legislative initiatives during process. To not do that is to be useless to the party and not worth the time to support.
