Kevin Smith oversized? Ejected from Southwest flight
Source: AP

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Kevin Smith says he's "way fat," but that shouldn't stop him from flying.

The director and actor says a pilot ejected him from a Southwest Airlines flight from Oakland to Burbank, Calif., saying he didn't fit properly in a single seat.

Smith raised a stink about the incident on his Twitter page Sunday, saying "I'm way fat, but I'm not there just yet," and "If you look like me, you may be ejected from Southwest Air."

He posted a picture of himself sitting on the plane with his cheeks puffed out.

The guy bought two seats and still got booted off the plane. He is great in his podcast about this: http://smodcast.com/
#106

They leave out in the article where he decided to go on a mission against sw and how they treat overweight people after the girl in the seat across from his 2nd owned empty seat got told she should buy two seats and had to ask his permission to sit next to his empty seat. This was after he got kicked off on his first flight with sw where they refused to tell him why even after the plane left and he was alone with them, and he had also bought two seats on that flight.

1. facts a bit wrong
Smith, 39, originally purchased two tickets "as he's been known to do when traveling Southwest," the airline noted, but when he decided to fly standby on an earlier flight, only one seat remained. Although he had been seated, he was asked to leave

2. Here's Kevin Smith's blog on the situation
Southwest is playing a dangerous game, considering the fact this story is prominently featured in our 11 PM newscast -- in Seattle.

If anyone else here listened to his SMODcast, you'll find out that he was actually more upset about the way a woman across from his seat was treated than he was about Southwest's treatment of him.

I think I'm now a Kevin Smith fan.

4. From what I understand....
He was able to sit in the seat and put on his seatbelt just fine so I don't understand why he was kicked off. SW has been acting like assholes for several years though and I'm glad they finally pissed off someone with an audience and the power to really be heard.

6. One problem is that airlines don't have an objective standard
For luggage they have precise dimensions and weight limits that can be read online, and they have devices in the airport that you can put a bag into to see if it fits in the assigned location for a seat.

There is no such objective standard for people. A person "of size" may be kicked off one flight and have no problem on the next flight. They need to come up with something that helps peoople identify what exactly the dimensions and/or weight limit is.
