"Undercover Boss" is complete and utter bullshit - pure corporate propaganda
Edited on Tue Feb-16-10 12:42 AM by Hugabear
As if a corporate CEO can truly understand what the low-level workers are going through by simply spending a couple of hours following them around, with a full TV production crew in tow. Then, at the end of the show, he hands out a few token rewards to those employees who were featured on the show, and makes a few half-assed pledge. Assuming the show were legitimate, what about the thousands of other employees not featured on the show - too fucking bad, you weren't on the show, so you get a big fat nothing! The whole thing reeks of artificiality. I'd be willing to wager that almost all of the scenes on this show are staged, with everyone involved knowing full well what is going on. I'm guessing the reality show staples were present - an overworked single mother (sob story), someone who has overcome the odds and has cheerful outlook (feel good story), and somebody who isn't adhering to the corporate rules and makes the CEO upset (villain story).

4. I gather you're talking about "Undercover Boss".
Watch full episodes here: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/undercover_boss/

The film crew gets in because staff are told it's a mini documentary, and to just act like they aren't there.

6. That is exactly right.
I'm amazed at how far out of touch these scabs are from how hard their employees have to work for scraps. I knew it was bad, but jesus.

And just remember, kids THESE are the guys who get bored with being captains of industry and then RUN FOR POLITICAL OFFICE.

And I wonder why Washington doesn't know WTF happens out here.

Edited on Tue Feb-16-10 03:48 AM by Jamastiene
In the previews, I didn't see any of the "bosses" crying like a baby or sweating or hurting physically or contemplating suicide for having to do the shit jobs the rest of us have to do. That, ALONE, told me it was going to be bullshit.

I want to see them ACTUALLY HURTING(aching), curled up on the floor in a fetal position crying, and becoming very depressed from having to do regular jobs for just 1 day, or I'm not watching.

11. How about if we were to drug Wilber Ross "Sago Mine Disater" owner....
And have him wake up deep in the bowels of one of his shoddy mines? We could give him a helmet light that has about 29 minutes of battery life.

Film the rest in infrared after his light goes out. Seismic activity, real or faked would be a bonus.

I predict his complete emotional collapse would occur quite quickly.

He probably knows better than anyone the deathtraps his hellholes are.

Should be fun.

12. Insulting and condescending propaganda bullshit...
No, I haven't actually watched the show; (I REFUSE to lower myself to that kind of crap, just in case my cable box is secretly being monitored for viewer ratings purposes) the commercials are nauseating enough!

Puh-lease!!! Give me a fucken break with all this reality show shit! IMO it's just more corporate crap to make tons more money without having to pay actual actors and script writers. And the outcome of this sickness of the reality show craze? Just look at "Balloon Boy's" family to see what kind of narcissistic monsters we are creating!

:grr:

14. It's Propaganda by design, most likely.
Edited on Tue Feb-16-10 05:15 AM by TheWatcher
I haven't watched the show, so I may be putting a lot of assumption into that notion, but if it's like any other reality show, it's scripted, slickly produced, and bears little resemblace to any actual "reality."

I think the timing of the show's release is even more in-your-face and "Eat Your Cake And Like It, Peasants" than the actual content itself, if that could be possible.

A lot of people are out of work, pissed off, and they can see that CEO's, Banksters, and the Upper Crust are giving themselves huge bonuses, and basically pissing down the throats of The Peasants and partying at our expense, while our world burns to the ground.

I don't think any of these pieces of shit would EVER want to let ME produce a Reality Show with them in mind.

Mine would make Running Man look like Match Game.

To The Upper Crust, Keep Pushing, Assholes.

One of these days we're going to PUSH BACK.

And you are going right off a cliff.

Enjoy the Rocks below.

It'll make a great Expressionist Art Piece, I assure you.

15. Actually it's simpler than that, free publicity for the corporation
And yes it's staged, all "reality" TV is staged. The trick is the editing and the hours and hours of footage they don't show you.

17. The only reality show that is remotely real is Dirty Jobs
Edited on Tue Feb-16-10 05:57 AM by Monk06
Most of the time Mike Rowe shows jobs that real people
do, that most people won't do .. and then he tries
his best to do them. Sometimes he fails.

18. Have not seen it because I don't have TV
But It does remind me of one I did see a while back....about a millionaire that goes in poor parts of town and eventually gives some money away to deserving people....and we were supposed to believe it was not staged and that these people did not notice the camera crew following this guy around.
They really do believe that we will watch and be "educated" into believing in the goodness of the corporate system of socialism.

20. I thought it was fake
when the one employee invited the boss to dinner the first time she met him. He could have been a serial killer for all she knew. But then I am pretty sure she knew he was the boss and it was a big set up.

22. Surprised
I was really surprised when she asked him to come to dinner at her house even though it seemed like she had just met him. The only other options I can think of also make that scene seem fake. Maybe that was not the first day she had met him. Maybe they just edited it to make it seem as if the first day she met him she invited him over to her house. Second, maybe the film crew or producer asked her to ask him over for dinner. I have learned that with certain reality tv shows the producers encourage certain individuals to do certain things.

Another thing that made me question that segment was the size of the house that she was living in and the number of people living in the house. I understand a number of people made mistakes in the housing market and bought houses they could not afford. However, her house seemed to be a big house. My first thought upon seeing that house was that she and/or her husband was being paid well. I was surprised when she claimed she was on the verge of losing her home or struggling to pay the bills. Also, she was living with multiple family members. It seemed like her family members could have worked and helped her pay for the house.

I am not trying to say the whole show was fake. However, that segment was very weird. Would most people invite someone they seemingly just met to their house without being prompted in some way to do so? In addition, would you tell someone you just met at your job all about you problems after you have invited them to dinner? I think I would think the person is not interested in listening to my problems and might be offended that I invited them to my house and then began to tell them my problems as if we were old friends.

21. An attempt by corporate America
to justify the insane wage gaps between the top and the bottom. If you buy into this crap or feel any sympathy for these 'poor CEO's', you deserve the minimum wage. If a CEO is suprised to find these things in his company, does he really need to be the CEO?

23. They did the same thing in Canada
I think it was Federal Express. They made a supervisor president for a week.

The guy made a lot of decisions that were entirely sensible and got high marks. The actual president did reasonably well, but not as good as the supervisor.

In the end, the actual president UNDID a lot of the good decisions his replacement did.

24. I saw the "hooters" episode last week. Didn't see the other one. It made me sick.
The "shocked" look on the owner's face when women told him they thought hooters objectified women.

My favorite part was when the factory workers were saying morale was low and someone let slip in a few words about how there used to be decent bonuses when they his father was the owner and he used to hang out in the factory talking to the workers. So the stupid owner came to the conclusion that he needed to hang out more at the factory like his dad. NO more input about the cut pay no that wasn't what was important . It was only that the workers want to see his obnoxious face.

You see workers don't care about money They just need to feel loved by the big boss.
