3. Perhaps it isn't too late to include that as a category.....
call it "I don't give a fuck cause now Bayh's gone"

Then I can vote, and my answer will make more sense. :)

4. I'm ruling out the ballet option from the git-go.
Evan Bayh wants to be president but has a greater likelihood of getting to that goal if he is not in the Senate where he has to take a stand on key reform legislation.

Obama is not to some progressives' liking but he is more vigorous in his legislative agenda than someone as dull and linear as Evan Bayh can bear. Obama will flush out Evan Bayh and force him into difficult public votes, which could become problematic were Bayh to seek higher office.

Other scenarios suggest themselves. Bayh may miss being governor and may run again in Indiana. It is a 'safe' job politically, he's generally better suited to it, he would retain the national profile on the news talk shows without incurring political risk with touchy Senate votes. He could snooze thru most of it and plan for the presidency most of the waking day. In the Senate, Bayh is one unimaginative fair-weather Democrat. The work is tedious. The rewards are few. He lacks the gifted energy to become exceptional. The governor's job back in Indiana would be an exercise in instant power. He goes almost overnight from ineffectual Senator to a State's top executive.

He has c. 13 million bucks in the bank right now. A bake sale or two would win him the gubernatorial race in Indiana, leaving most of that sum legally transferrable to a primary challenge to Obama.

There could be some unpleasant revelations regarding the banks coming soon. Maybe not, but if there were, Bayh's departure leaves him "free and clean" of Washington.

6. Mr. H took one look at him & said, "He's going to run for President"...
Said in a manner both appalled and disgusted: "They're going to try to unseat their own president."

So on behalf of my own Mr. H, I cast this poll's first vote for that notion -- because I have no clue.

14. One Less Republican In The Senate
No matter what party he claimed he is a Republican. Maybe we can get a real Democrat to replace him.

15. I chose the big job option ...
But it is just as possible that he sold high and doesn't want to lose any of it if there are pesky inquiries later. If he fears investigation, how little he knows of what is left of America. Nobody even remembers what an investigation is except us peons.
