Has it ever been this bad? Non stop ads for Parenthood (GAG) and annoying, awkwardly set up spots for what appears to be a truly nauseating movie about Dragons....anyone calculating the time ratio between ads and events?

We are about to give up and go to bed....such a shame.

2. It has been this bad for the past few Olympics because I bitch about it every two years.
But man, the snowboarding is absolutely thrilling!

so, all isn't lost. Who knew?

Yeah, they can hardly get through an even without breaking in to raise money.

5. NBC has done a horrible job covering the Olympics.
ABC did the Olympics years ago and they did a good job - their coverage had heart and soul. They were prone to a few gaffes now and then, such as David Santee telling Brian Orser he's in second place and shoving a microphone in his face, but overall I thought ABC did the Olympics right. NBC's coverage is technologically sophisticated, but cold and sterile and distant.

6. I've given up.
I am a huge fan of figure skating - I used to be a skater and I love watching it. I have my favorites, but I want to see all of the people who worked so hard to get there - even if they are in 16th place after the short program and are not *gasp* 'Murikan.

This coverage gets worse and worse. I have it on mute and they have spent the last 15 minutes interviewing a fucking zamboni driver.

Is there any other place I can watch the events?

The coverage reminds me of someone flipping channels.

7. I couldn't tell you what any television commercial I've seen today was about.
Why would I bother to notice? Really, what reason would I have to notice what they are about?

9. I saw which way the wind was blowing & stopped watching the Olympics years ago
It was obvious as early as 1992 that what I see now in retrospect was THE CORPORATIZATION of Olympic coverage and I can't remember the last Olympics I watched.

Also, when we switched places with the Soviets and it was US who was fielding teams of ringer-pros against mostly amateurs, that was a further turnoff.

Which is pretty funny, if you consider that now we are the old Soviets in many different ways the Olympics flip preceded the actual national flip to a Soviet-ish (at least in terms of corporate-state media propaganda) Inverted Totalitarianism.

12. I've Given Up!
I've been watching, on and off for an hour now.

I don't think I've seen an event yet!

But I know all about McDonald's new spicy dip!

I'm done. Pissed as hell, and done.

13. Just TiVo it and wait an hour and start playing the recording...
then you just fast forward through the commercials.

If you catch up do some posting on DU. After 15 minutes to 1/2 hour hit play again.

That's exactly what I am doing now.

15. I gave up, watching a movie. Talked for several Olympics of watching a dvd of it
I bet the library will get a dvd of the Best of the Olympics. I know they are for sale not long after the events.

Last night I read a book, with mute in my other hand, then watched some. It is a shame. NBC pays so much to show them, they have to take in so many ads. Or is it that NBC knows it will have so much ads paying that they pay a lot to show it? Either way, it is a shame.

16. NBC's "coverage" sucks.
I switch channels during the commercials. Sometimes I forget to click back to the Olympics.

17. I'm watching them
Yes, time-delayed, and plenty of commercials for NBC's dreck, but since we pay for only a very basic cable package with a mere twenty channels, I still feel I'm getting my money's worth.

I found the opening ceremonies very inspiring, and was gratified to see that Canada treats its native peoples with dignity and respect.

19. Yep. I guess I am just pretty stringently anti-commercial!
It is clear that as it gets later, the segments run longer, less ads...so they do want eyeballs focused on selling at prime time.
