Family Guy' Mocks Sarah Palin's Son Trig For Having Down Syndrome
Well, not exactly as the title suggests but still a dig at the former Governor of Alaska.I thought it was hilarious but it may offend some. OBVIOUSLY, she will take to her Facebook page and paint herself out as the victim as usual and demand Fox fire Seth Macfarlane and cancel FAMILY GUY.

5. Actually, I found the DS episode offensive and changed channels
Of course, we are all free to do things like that but lots of folks would rather complain.

To me that episode was a lot like stomping a baby.

Can't we just go back to blasting Cheney and Rove?

7. FOX
Fox refused to let Seth air the now famous "abortion" episode of FAMILY GUY because they fear there would be a boycott.Keep in mind, Rush Limbaugh and Karl Rove will appear in an upcoming episode this season. If anyone lashes out at Family Guy simply remind them Karl and Rush seem to think it's OK to do the show so how bad can it be?

Someone on another wrote this and I felt it was perfect and very well said.

"Regardless as to whether people will find this offensive or not, I'm very happy that McFarlane did it.

I so hate the way Palin plays the martyr role in terms of being persecuted by the media. She spends an inordinate amount of time threatening every media outlet (it seems) that dares to disagree with her.

And most of them seem to back down. Bitch needs to tussle with someone who doesn't care about her incessant whining and empty threats, and MacFarlane seems like that guy.

It would have been better if he would have made fun of her politics rather than her family, but after she hypocritically shamed Emanuel while giving Limburger a pass, Palin really politicized the situation herself."

Why the hell is this acceptable?

Why does anybody think anything mocking the disabled is "hilarious"?

I guess some around here and elsewhere have never been around disabled people.

I was simply unaware that part and parcel of the reason for both television channels and the concomitant hardware were developed so as to allow a person not to see something offensive.

Multiple television channels exist because different people like different things.
So, effectively, if there's something youdon;t have to watch other options exist.

83. That's one way of looknig at it.
If my car could only navigate to the jersey shore, I would likely own a different car.
If my TV only had QVC, I would get a differnet TV with a diffreent channel.

One of the reasons, not necessarily THE reason, multiple channels exist is so that if you find a television show unappealing yuo can continue watching on a different channel. Choice. If something displeases you and there is an alternate chioce available... make it.

48. So, I should just shut the hell up? No, it doesn't work that way.
Here's how it runs:

Family Guy runs yet another unfunny joke, this time mocking the disabled.

I find out about it on DU, because as a rule, I don't watch the unfunny.

I get pissed off, and I complain.

Maybe, just maybe one person will take my complaint to heart and not make a joke mocking the disabled (which population by the way includes my child).

Civilization points increase for the USA.

Problem solved within my ability and to the extent that I can do so.

Since my posts contain nothing about shutting down Family Guy, I don't know where you're getting the "Book Lover hates the first amendment" thing. Wait a sec, I do know - your imagination.

I like free speech so much that I'm engaging in a little of it myself. I'm saying that jokes based on the words "retard" and "retarded" are hurtful and those who make those jokes ought to be shamed, and ashamed. That is such a straightforward and declarative statement that even you must be able to understand it.

i watched a recorded episode of family guy as well last night- so it may have have been in the other episode, and i'm confusing it.

meg and stewie were in the tub- stewie says 'hey meg, watch this', and bubbles came up from behind him, indicating that he had farted...so meg does it too, and bubbles come up behind her...they're both giggling, and then bubbles come up in front of meg instead of behind. stewie pauses for a moment, and then bolts out of the tub, screaming.

40. From what I understand, it's nothing like that at all.
Seth was rightfully pissed when they canceled his show a few years ago, so when they put him back on the air, he now goes out of his way to get Fox in trouble and poke fun at them every chance he gets.

I didn't find the segment particularly funny, but I think that most of the humor will be when Sarah Palin does exactly what he wants her to do and she starts flailing around indignantly screaming for apologies from everyone.

54. That's
That's why I said the title is a bit misleading because they in no way mock the disabled but more Sarah Palin. The girl with down syndrome is the bully and Chris even says in the end you are just like the rest of us A-holes. How is comparing someone with down syndrome as being just like us mocking them? I think if people actually saw the clip rather than respond to the what the OP at Huffpost wrote would clearly see they are wrong being offended at the character. I see it different. I see Chris finding the girl with down syndrome pretty and wanting to ask her out s being anything but mocking the disabled. If you don't like Family Guy or get the humor, that's fine. It's clearly not for everyone. However,to attack Family Guy for creating a character who has down syndrome who acts like the rest of us is just not true. I suggest everyone to watch the clip before making any final decision. Or better yet, watch the entire episode to see how this character with DS is portrayed. Some of the comments to the OP at Huffpost are saying the same thing. The title is misleading. I would change it but I want people to see the clip and judge for themselves

57. Nicely put, romantico.

It's a shame some of our members can't look past the obvious trigger-issue to see the ambush FG has set to expose Palin's Munchausen-by-proxy.

Folks need to actually think instead of just reacting.

53. I'll have to say no funny here
besides not liking making fun of the disabled the double standard by SOME kills me.

We cry moral indignation when Limpballs makes fun of Micheal J Fox and demand his head but find this stuff funny when it's their side being made fun of?

Sorry but I can't roll that way.

69. Who's out to be 'better than' anyone else?
It's a friggin' laugh, for jeebus' sake! BTW - your use of the word "bitch" in your reply was totally uncalled for and offensive.

88. Palin has no right to condemn this since she gave Rush a pass by calling it Satire. This is satire,
so she can just sit down and shut the hell up.

By her own rules.

But of course she wont, because she is a complete hypocrite, and uses that poor boy to her own advantage. She doesnt care that anyone made fun of him.

59. I had to quit watching Family Guy
when they started doing dead baby jokes. 20 years, and I'm still sensitive as hell about it. There are some lines that just shouldn't be crossed.

66. The episode had a pretty positive message, really.
Chris had a genuine crush on the Down's Syndrome girl; he thought she was beautiful and special. Turns out that she was an asshole just like everyone else.

76. Really don't get the humor in this...
Edited on Tue Feb-16-10 03:26 PM by AngryOldDem
But then, this is a show that found humor in shaken baby syndrome. If there's a problem with Palin, fine; but don't make the kid the butt of the joke. That attitude concerning Down children is still too common in some circles and need not be given any more of a national stage than it deserves -- which is none.

I have absolutely NO use for Seth MacFarlane and the shit he produces.

77. Family Guy is a piece of shit show done by elitists to mock the working class
In my opinion

They have occasionally funny jokes and animation - the first season was regularly funny - but it's gotten worse and worse as the years have progressed.

79. You can comfort yourself anyway you like
Making fun of the idle rich is safe ground; it doesn't really question how the system really works, and it's a tradition.
