Bush to Democrats: do not 'test my will' on Iraq
CAMP DAVID - President George W. Bush warned Democrats Friday not to "test my will" by passing new legislation on a US troop pullout from Iraq after he vetoes a bill passed by Congress this week.
Bush invited Democrats and leaders of his Republican Party to discuss a way out of their standoff soon after he strikes down the bill, which ties 124 billion dollars in war funds to a withdrawal that would start on October 1.

"And if the Congress wants to test my will as to whether or not I'll accept the timetable for withdrawal, I won't accept one," he told a news conference at his retreat in Camp David, Maryland, alongside Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

"So if they want to try again that which I have said was unacceptable, then of course I'll veto it," Bush said.

6. Which is why it's good to avoid having rich kids in the presidency
I generally don't trust people who grew up rich and privileged in life. I have found that they have an entitlement mentality, which is very obvious in this president's personality.

Of course, I had to vote for John Kerry, even though he was about my fifth choice for the nomination. If you have to vote for a rich kid, at least vote for the one with his priorities in the right place.

36. U are absolutely correct. Kerry & the Kennedy's, yeah from the privileged set.
However, look at what they have all done with their lives. They have all mostly tried to make lives better for those less fortunate. Robert on the environment, John, Bobby & Ted all have tried to serve the people. I can't remember the other Kennedy's but some of them are serving the public as well. Kerry did not have to go to war but he chose to do so.

Like you say, you look at where they have their priorities.

10. Bushco needs to read the U.S. Constitution
Oh wait...they obviously don't own a copy. We should mail them some.

Article 2, Section 2:
"The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States;"

"when called into the actual Service of the United States;"

as in, it ain't up to him what happens 'politically' with the military, he just commands it in the field, so to speak.

Article 1, Section 8:
"To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;
To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;
To provide and maintain a Navy;
To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;"

It's up to Congress whether they want to raise or support an army. Not the President. It's up to the congress to make war, not the President. It's up to the Congress what we do militarily in the world. Yes, the President has the VITAL ability to defend our nation when we're attacked and command our troops. Yet, he still must abide by the decisions of Congress when it comes to military powers.

It's not a dictatorhip Mr. Bush. Sorry.

15. What Democrats should emphasize is that if Bush budgeted his pet war honestly, on the books, which
he could easily have done with his REPUBLICAN Congress of a couple years ago, he wouldn't NEED to fund it entirely with "emergency/supplementals".

But no.

24. Bush holding the troops hostage.
He's a sociopath, he could care less how this effects the troops. His unwillingness to admit there's no "winning" in Iraq means more people have to die. This ought to be impeachable if he refuses to accept the will of Congress and the American people. Maybe Congress ought to deauthorize IWR, that would clip the Decider's wings.

38. Heckuva compromise, *.
Bush invited Democrats and leaders of his Republican Party to discuss a way out of their standoff soon after he strikes down the bill, which ties 124 billion dollars in war funds to a withdrawal that would start on October 1.

"And if the Congress wants to test my will as to whether or not I'll accept the timetable for withdrawal, I won't accept one,"

So in other words, we can talk about war funding and come to a compromise... so long as you're the only one giving up anything and I get exactly what I want. Once he vetoes this one, they should offer a bill the same as this, with the exception that the new one have half the money. If he vetoes that, then let the war end by default when the jerk runs outta cash. CUT HIS ALLOWANCE! It's the only way that spoiled brat is going to learn.
