The Taliban reacted by the logic of guerilla warfare: booby trapped the shit out of the area and left. Whether NATO gained anything from this strategically remains open.

1. I would think our commanders knew how the Taliban would react.

5. Do you mean this?
"In their house nearby, a family huddled in one room, laundry flapping on the line outside."

Or this?

"An elderly neighbor emerged from her house and asked Marines not to fire at it. 'This is just my house,' she said."

8. Ah, I missed it.
"Decades ago, the Marjah area was home to an Afghan-U.S. development project. Its canals, which criss-cross lush farmland, were built by the Americans."

Things are looking brighter today.

3. The goal is to secure the city of Marjah and they are accomplishing that.
Once the bombs and booby traps and Talibangers are cleared out they will bring in a new Government complete with a huge Afghan police force to keep the peace.

20. Yes, but not by supporting people who traffic young girls, bomb families, and produce heroin.
The enemy's enemy of the Afghan people is not their friend.

Very mature. And that's not what it was about. But if you think we invaded Aghanistan for profit, you do need some education. That was Iraq. You're obviously confused.

21. I'm offended by the use of "offensive" as a noun.
It's just another example of how we're crapping on the language.
