16. My nephew speed skates.
His dad was going to take him up to the meet in Toronto. But, my nephew took a spill and went into the boards after crossing skates with another kid.

Thank God there was no major injury, just soreness in the C1..C2 area.

I was under orders when I went to Vancouver this fall to bring my nephew back Olympic speed skating pins!

2. SO - who is Glen Beck - Hannity - and O'Lielly sponsoring?
I mean they are all "Great Americans" right?
I've heard people cal into Hannity's radio show and say "Thanks for taking my call Sean, It's an honor to talk to such a "Great American".

SO, they must be sponsoring somebody or some team, right?
Right?
Right?
RIGHT?

11. I think I just became one, too
Bought my first Colbert Nation T-shirt while waiting for NBC to start broadcasting from Vancouver. A little late to the game, I admit, but I am so proud of the Colbert Nation for stepping up where the bank that used to sponsor the speedskaters fell short.

12. Stephen is even part of the team. He's their "Assistant Sports Psychologist"
which means his job is basically to tell the athletes "You can do it guys! Now get out there and kick some ass!" :rofl:

13. Fringe benefit: slapping Apolo Anton Ohno on the butt on his way out to compete...
...and then bragging about it Monday evening back in New York City in front of a raucous studio audience. :rofl:

19. There's no sponsorship on anyone's suits at the Olympics...
Edited on Mon Feb-15-10 11:19 AM by SidDithers
but here's a pic of Chad Hendrik from a recent World Cup event:

The US skaters also have a Colbert Nation logo on the outside of their let leg, but not at the Olympics.

18. That was some exciting stuff in the men's 1500m
Looked like a South Korea sweep for a moment, but one accidental bum is all it takes to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. They're damn lucky to have the gold, but at least we took silver and bronze.

20. Colbert's fundraising as a sponsor is exceeding goals
http://www.ctvolympics.ca/about-vancouver/news/newsid=39515.html

Colbert's sponsorship of the U.S. speed-skating team - which followed the bankruptcy of former team sponsor DSB Bank - was not simply a lark or a stunt. Yes, it was partially borne of a desire for the show to do something for the Olympics, but also of a genuine fondness for speed skating harboured by Colbert since he was a teenager watching the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, N.Y.

"It was a time in my life - I was in high school - when I had time to watch all the Olympics. And I was very into those Games." The young Colbert, dealing with a terrible personal tragedy - the death five-and-a-half years earlier of his father and two brothers in a plane crash - was drawn to Eric Heiden, who won five gold medals at Lake Placid. Later, he followed the careers of Dan Jansen, Bonnie Blair and Joey Cheek.
~~~
The sponsorship campaign has snowballed far beyond Colbert's wildest expectations: exceeding the fundraising goal of $300,000 by $50,000; the buy-in from his fans; and Colbert himself landing on the cover of the world's most prestigious sports magazine. "Making the cover of Sports Illustrated was thrilling, ridiculous, because you just don't do that. It just can't be done. And I just love things that are stupidly impossible but somehow happen for the character."
Well done, Stephen!
