I won a lovely voodoo doll here during our fundraising for Katrina victims.
I have enjoyed her for a long time. I am sad that I cannot remember who made her, I think it was a DUer who isn't here anymore. Anyway she is a lovely little poppet and her ribbons read "Lady Madonna, Cast your spell". I was thinking we could do an online raffle and the proceeds could go to a great charity in New Orleans or to a Haiti relief organization. What do you think? How do I go about this? I will get hubby to post a picture of her asap.

2. That is a lovely idea :)

I'm trying to find a great charity that was (and perhaps still is) instrumental in post-Katrina New Orleans, and now Haiti. Maybe someone reading this will know?

:hi:

5. The masks that DUers made were beautiful.
I won the voodoo doll in a raffle. Everyone who bid on masks or contributed had their name entered. I was so excited that I won!

7. He's down for the count.
Having been awake for a ridiculously long time, he is napping. As soon as he is awake and coherent, I will have him photograph her and post. She is a tiny thing, maybe 6-7" tall and really, really pretty. I will miss her but it's the right thing to do.

4. I remember that auction. There were some really nice handmade
arts and crafts items up for bid. I think it was to benefit DUers who had lost everything to Katrina. I bid on a couple of things, didn't win them but it was interesting and for a very good cause. I'd love to see us do something like that again.

8. I don't have anything from the Katrina raffle, but do have
a few items that were made here by residents and Alaska Natives that I could contribute. A few were made by my father-in-law (he was QUITE the woodworker) before his death. One is a pen-and-ink drawing from about 1950 done by an old trapper who lived in Circle, about 90 miles north of Fairbanks. Small (5 x 7 or so) and yellowed, but really neat.

Let's do a Katrina/Haiti OR just a "needy DU'er" auction. I'll help!

Great idea. I'll dig up some pics, or take some and post, too. Skinner? What do you think?
