Minority rule has replaced majority rule.
Edited on Sat Feb-13-10 01:29 AM by kentuck
Rachel was looking for a word or phrase to replace the boring word, filibuster. It is nothing more than minority rule.

What did we have the last election for? If the majority means nothing in this country, then democracy is dying, if not already dead.

Our vote was meaningless. After eight disastrous years, denial is not a policy. Is there not one Republican that will put his country over his Party?

Minority rule is illegitimate. It is contrary to our Constitutional meaning. It is divisive. It is wrong. The rule was never meant to be abused in such a way. It is wrong.

3. It's because the majority is trying to follow the rules...
and follow the President's wishes for bi-partisanship.

But you are correct, the majority is not helpless. They can pass a law changing the workweek to 35 hours per week and anything over 30-hours per week would be over-time. That would not require a 60-vote to stop debate. That would only require a simple majority. Think of how this would affect the unemployment problem...These are tough times. We all have to sacrifice just a little. It's the American thing to do.

5. What would the 35 hour work week accomplish?
I'm really wondering. I haven't heard about this, I am a casual follower of politics and this is news to me.

6. It would force employers to get more out of their present employees..
Or hire more to get the same production. It could possibly create several million jobs. It could be a temporary measure for as long as it was needed.

4. Yeah tell me about it. I am here in minority ruled California.
The whole state is being held hostage by a few senators from the central valley and northern log land. Fog land and log land make me

9. With the approval and collusion of the majority
This wouldn't happen if the Democrats didn't allow it to happen.

11. Make that minority NON rule has replaced majority rule...
Because as a result of this constant obstructionism, nothing gets done.
